Thanks for your response. My name is Christopher Murphy. I live in US but presently in London on a business trip and I need a part time personal assistant urgently to run my errands until I return back to the US by fourth week in December. I own an electronics and clothing store in London, United Kingdom. Here below is the job description.

1. You will run errands for three times a week and four hours each day but depending on how fast you can carry out the assignment given to you. The working days and hours are flexible.
2. You will do my business shopping.
3. You will receive my packages which will be shipped to the nearest UPS office to you. You will go to the UPS office and pick up the packages. The content of the packages are electronics, clothes, my business and personal letters. You will open the packages and confirm the contents for record purpose.
4. You will ship out some of the packages where I want them to be shipped to. (You don’t have to pay for the shipment. All expenses and taxes will be covered by me)
5. You will receive payments from my clients on my behalf which will be written payable to your name so you can cash them at your bank. The payments will be in either check or money order. The payments will be for the services you will be rendering and to do my business shopping.

  1. Wow. Thank you guys for posting. I replied to a post on Craigslist 6 days ago titled Smart Office / Personal Assistant (New York, NY). I don’t see it now when trying to search for it. I received the email response tonight and it did sound a little suspicious so thank you all.

    I wish I had looked this up online before I fell for the scam. My scammer’s “name” was Mrs. Angelina Richards. Also found on Craigslist and very similar e-mail that she sent like the ones above. I am only 20 years old but I feel so f**king naive and feel like I should have known better with the internet.

    She sent checks to my apartment and my task was to deposit them into my account (since she was in Canada for two weeks and I was working remote). The checks were from “donors” for her BS orphanage foundation crap. I was then instructed to take out the funds once cleared and then send them to NIGERIA through a Western Union. A couple days ago, my bank account was in the negatives because one of the checks had bounced. AND I got charged a returned check fee since I already had taken out that money. Mind you, that was just one check. There was another I deposited and took out funds for that hasn’t bounced back yet. Each check was $975. That’s going to be about 2k that the bank is going to hold me accountable for. To top it all off, another one of my tasks were to post for an admin job on Craigslist on her behalf and she made me pay the $25 to post, telling me I would be reimbursed the next Monday. I should have seen that as a red flag.

    I only agreed to do the depositing checks thing because she said there would be more tasks once she got back from Canada that seemed more assistant like/receptionist like. I freaking fell for it. I can’t believe it. I had to share my story.

    Please please please be aware out there everyone. Especially college students! We are an easy target with our debts and struggling financial ways so it’s so easy to fall into this type of scam if you don’t know about it.

  9. I really hate myself for falling victim in this kind of scam. Why are there so many bad people in this world?? That Danielle Langely thing. She (or maybe a he) is a fraud. PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO HER. I should have listened to my sister. PEOPLE, please be careful! If they don’t give you anything concrete like an address or a phone number, don’t give your information. And I ignored the red flags like I was hired right away without meeting me for interview. She is saying she is hard of hearing so the only mode of communication is through email. That is also a red flag. She don’t give her phone number. DO NOT DEPOSIT THE MONEY TO YOUR BANK AND ENCASH THE CHECK BECAUSE THERE IS NO FUND ON THAT CHECK, THE CASH THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO GET AND WIRE TRANSFER TO SOMEBODY IS YOUR OWN FUND. AND PLEASE DO NOT DO THE DIRECT DEPOSIT OF YOUR SALARY. SHE IS TRYING TO GET YOUR BANK INFORMATION.

  11. I saw the add on craiglist, something seemed off but I still went with it. Soon enough I got a check on the mail. I immediately let the person know i was not interested. However i deposited the check to my account so I could wire the money back. The check has not gone through yet. I was skeptical about this so I searched the email and found this. What do I do know? Will this person have access to my bank account in any way or any other personal accounts? Please help.

  15. I had received the same exact thing last week! Such BS. However, have any of you received a check in the mail of a rather large sum? I did and I am pretty sure its a scam, but I just wanted to put it out there. If you receive a check from a random company (mine is Lasco Foods/Computer Share) please check with the bank before you deposit it! NEVER deposit it through an ATM.

    1. I was hired without an interview.
    2. The person is away in Canada.
    3. My responsibility is to get donation for the orphanage.
    4. Checks will be sent to me.
    5. I’m to send my personal information- so what’s the resume for??

    7. I couldn’t find this person on Facebook nor LinkedIn..
