Beware of Michael A. Jacobs and Simply-Assistants.com

There’s a new scam populating CareerBuilder and Monster and it’s using the name Simply Do It Assistants run by a guy named Michael A. Jacobs. He claims that his business is “is a licensed, bonded and insured lifestyle management agency specializing in the management of personal & business affairs and concierge services for VIPs, celebrities, athletes, entertainers and corporate executives.” He’s looking for personal assistants to work for $500 a week.

What he’s actually looking for is a way to scam you. Either out of money or your identity or (and probably) both.

Do not work for Simply Do It Assistants, Simply-Assistants.com, or Michael A. Jacobs

Here’s the email that he is sending out…

From: jacobs.michael75@yahoo.com
Subject: RE: more information and your agreement ****_**** Simply Dolt Assistants.

Hi,

We acknowledge receipt of email. This position is still available (Personal Assistant, 2-3 hours a day, $500 / week, work from home mostly so no exact location).

For any additional information about this position, how it works, payment, etc please refer our corporate website and FAQ section (frequently asked questions. Website addres is at the bottom).

If you are willing to work with us and have already studied our website, please sign up the labor contract attached and send it back BY EMAIL. You will find the contract attached. Fill it out and send by email as attachment, do not fax it. If you have any questions and do not see answers on the website – please reply to this email.

Best regards, Michael A. Jacobs
HR Manager

Simply DoIt Assistants, LLC
1111 Brickell Ave, #701
Miami, FL 33131-3112

Telephone:(305) 432-2884

Included in the email is an attached application that you need to fill out and return. Within the application is this list of duties…

Duties and Position

The Company hires the Employee in the capacity of a Personal Assistant. The
Employee’s duties:

1. Planning, organizing and research
2. Providing enthusiastic, professional, quality service to our customers. Processing various inquiries to enhance their quality of life.
3. Assisting with corporate & personal shopping / acquisition (includes providing thoughtful ideas, locating, purchasing, wrapping and delivering as needed)
4. You must possess fluent knowledge of the city and geography of surrounding areas; as well as knowledge of the restaurants, amenities, clubs and tourism industries to provide to hotel guests.
5. Making arrangements for VIP or out-of-town guests (which includes: ideas, researching, scheduling, booking, communication, and follow-up as needed)

I bolded line three because this is a common description used to describe package reshipping and fake check scams. Odds are, Michael Jacobs is either going to send you a check to make purchases with or have packages shipped to your house.

If he sends you a check, he’ll tell you to deposit the check into your account, go out, buy whatever he wants (usually high priced electronics), and ship them overseas. The only problem is the check will eventually bounce due to it being either stole or fake and you’ll be stuck having to pay for the thousands of dollars worth of equipment you sent to some random guy in a foreign country.

If he send you packages, he’ll tell you he needs them reshipped to clients, again, overseas. This is even more troublesome as the packages will have been purchased with stolen credit card information. The authorities will soon following the shipping address and arrive at your house. Unfortunately for you, the packages will be long gone and the authorities will want to know what you were doing receiving packages that were bought with money that isn’t yours.

Either scenario does not end well for you.

If that’s not enough, you can run a WHOIS on the Simply-Assistants.com domain and get the following information…

Domain name: SIMPLY-ASSISTANTS.COM
Name Server: ns1.bernet.ru
Name Server: ns2.bernet.ru
Creation Date: 2011.03.14
Expiration Date: 2012.03.14
Registrant ID: U53DVT3-RU
Registrant Name: Michael A Block
Registrant Organization: Michael A Block
Registrant Street1: main str. 140-341
Registrant City: BeberlyHills
Registrant State: BeberlyHills
Registrant Postal Code: 90211
Registrant Country: US

I’ll point out the obvious disrepencies. First them email states his name is Michael A. Jacobs and he runs a company out of Miami Florida. However, the domain is registered to a Michael A. Block in the city of BeberlyHills in the “state” of BeberlyHills. I don’t know about you guys, but I don’t recall learning about the 51st state of BeberlyHills. He also elected to go with Main Street. This dude is not original at all.

Aside from that, the website was created 3 days ago and it’s being hosted somewhere in Russia. Not BeberlyHills, not Miami, but Russia. Clearly something is amiss here.

Finally, we have Michael’s signature in the application.

Simply-assisstants.com scam

The first part of his name is very clear and legible. The second half, not so much. It appears that Michael may have had a seizure mid signature. This leads me to believe he’s using multiple aliases and email address to keep this scam fresh.

Bottom line: don’t work for Michael Jacobs or Simply Do It Assistants. He’s up to no good and it could cost you thousands of dollars, your identity, and may even land you in trouble with the local authorities. Stay far away from communicating with this guy and if you have any other similar emails from him, please post them below.

  1. My job was the same as most of the above, but the name was Best Assistant LLC, and they claim to be out of New York. My job was to find a russian sculpture, that was supposedly “broken” and needed a replacement. The guys name in HR was not very creative: John Smith. I also spoke with his assistant “Tammy”. Their not very professional and they didn’t care if I didn’t do the assignment. What a joke! Thank God I didn’t get taken by these criminals. Beware of Best Assistants LLC!

  2. I fell for the same “job”. The same exact assignment; etc regarding a Russian painting. However, the Western Union task really gained my attention! No, I wasn’t going to provide any bank account numbers. ($9,650). Then, when I went to Western Union online; there was no limit on the dollars that one could send. So, it was a total lie! In any case, the info now given is:

    Hope this helps!

    1) As you know, we start with a 15-day trial period (or 30 work hours alternative, if we have more work for you), and you will be paid $800 upon completion. More details will be provided later, with my next email and instructions.

    2) There is no need for you to fill out any tax forms at this time (for the trial period). I will provide more details once you complete your test period.

  8. WOW!!! Should have thought to check his name out a long time ago. I have gotten the same emails from Mr Jacobs and did the 3 jobs as requested and then got a lot of stalling for money to be paid. He was on vacation, then out of town and his latest email said he is sending new contract. Haven’t heard from him since I told him I was tired of waiting and closed my bank account.

I will be reporting him to career builders and any other place I can …I am on the bandwagon, just let me know what I need to do to back you guys up.

Second red flag, similar descriptions, even the signature is the same color. Third company focus is the same. Fourth, tracing his email went from california to the UK when its based on NY. Safe to say I could go on however I wont. Not that I ever made it to the point of seeing fraud I am haulting communication as of this point. Our new fraudulent name is Christopher Smith. The website is registered out of tennessee.

    Detailed Job Description

The primary goal of the Administrative Assistant/Sales Support is to provide local representation within the location of the auctioned items, provide our clients with convenient payment options, contribute to the sales force and add convenience to our service dedicated to individuals, businesses, and organizations worldwide.

You will be assisting our clients within United States, the assistance to be provided will include: online communication regarding shipping and payments, payment collections and currency conversions, managing data and correspondence, reporting to supervisor.

    – Communicating with Clients

The clients you will communicate with by email have agreed to make the purchase, no need to convince or sell, instead provide assistance with the completion of the purchase. No client will contact you during initial stage of employment; you will simply receive all of the transferring details, and payments, along with step by step guidance from your supervisor via email. All communication with buyers and supervisor is by email.

    – Managing Data

Along with the payments received from buyers you will be receiving details of these sales. These details will include items sold, price, and buyer’s information.

    Accounts & Transferring/Forwarding Procedures

There are three types of accounts that can be used to accept transfers from clients as well as your salary: personal, business, or corporate. Any of these can be set up just for the purpose of accepting the payments for purchases or an already active account can be used.

Personal Accounts – Current average volume is $20,000 of transfers per month. Typical transaction however will be around $2,000-$3,000 per transfer. Commission from each received and forwarded transfer is 5%, thus with current volume commission will equal $1,000 per month.

Business Accounts – These can be setup easily at large banks that offer easy business account setups. Current average volume of transfers to business accounts is around $60,000 per month. With 5% commission that will be $3,000 worth of commission per month.

Corporate Accounts – Much more complicated to setup, unless you already have a corporate account. Current average volume of transfers to corporate accounts is around $100,000 per month. With 5% commission that will be $5,000 worth of commission per month.

    – Forwarding of the Payments

Once you receive each payment you will be keeping 5% as commission and forwarding the rest to either the seller or other representative, whose information will be provided. It is crucial to complete forwarding of the payments in a time efficient manner. Forwarding of transfers will be done through either wire transferring, Western Union, or Money Gram, depending on the amount of the transaction. Transfers over $1,000 but under $10,000 will have to be forwarded in person through a nearby Western Union or Money Gram location. Transfers under $1,000 can be forwarded through Western Union or Money Gram online. Transfers of $10,000 and more can be forwarded as wire transfers online, in person, or through telephone banking.

    – Correspondence

You will be submitting brief reports, weekly reports, and monthly reports. Weekly and monthly reports are to be done in Excel format.

Here is an example of a brief report:
    Date: April 20’11
    Buyer: Amanda Lewis
    Item: Omega Automatic
    Price: $3,100.00 USD
    Commission 5%: $155.00 USD
    Fees: $135.00 USD
Forwarded to Greg Rasmusen: $2,810.00 USD
Reference Numbers for Greg Rasmusen: 954-387-9866

    Confidential Page 2 5/12/2011

    – Fees, and Transferring Procedures

All fees are covered by the company. The fees for transferring are simply deducted from the payment received. No client will contact you during initial stage of the trial period. After the first month of employment you will begin to have contact with the buyers via email in regards to collection of the payments. For the first month you will simply receive all of the transferring details, and payments, along with step by step guidance from your supervisor. You will be forwarding the received payments through Western Union and/or Money Gram transferring agents, they are located at the post offices; this allows instant currency conversions and instant payment transferring.

    – Income and Taxes

    Salary Part-Time
During the first month of employment which is considered as the training and step by step guidance period for new employees, for working part-time, 4 hours per day (at least 1-2 hours should be during the normal business hours – between 9 a.m.-5 p.m.), Monday-Friday; you will be paid 1,500 USD per month, plus 5% commission from every payment received and forwarded. The salary will be sent in the form of wire transfer directly to your account. After the first month of employment your base pay salary will go up to 2,000 USD per month, plus 5% commission.

    Salary Full-Time

  12. Okay, so this saga continues. So I have been non-stop all over this situation. Including closing down my bank account, getting a new one, paying someone to watch my credit and my social security number across the board. I have actually called this *** repeatedly to let him know I know what he is doing. After speaking with him, he says to me “well do you have any suggestions?” Of course Im like “Ya, stop stealing money from people and pay them at least the money you owe them.” Some name calling, followed by him laughing at me on the phone. This man thinks he will never be caught. So this morning, this is what I get;

    Celeste,

As I promised, we had a meeting today in regards to the client payment for the art gallery and your compensation. It was decided to pay you regardless, having in mind you will be able to complete the art project same day with no delays.

Once your $1,000 compensation is received we shall start with a longer term employment. This art gallery payment task will be handled as an extra task any day it is deposited. Please make sure you keep your account ACTIVE because this information has already been sent over to the client.

Let me know when you get your two week trial payment. It will be processed by our accounting dept next business day.

    Best regards, Matt Jacobs

    This arrogant scammer sends back to me;

So you do not want to be paid?

If we have problems with you attitude I wall cancel both payments.

HAHAHAHA, all I can think is You mean the payment that you werent really gonna send anyway? HAHAHAHA.

    He follows with an email;

    Dear Celeste,

I know there is a delay with your payment. Considering your are not here you might have concerns about that. I would like to make sure everything is OK. Please be patient. You have no new tasks, only waiting for your paycheck. Once you see the money in the account everything will be fine. I mean this is important for you to receive your 1st paycheck. Delay was mostly because your trial period compensation was linked to the client payment. As I told you we will not wait for the client anymore, and you will get your compensation. In order to compensate this delay I have asked the client to send you $500 bonus instead of $300 in this project.

Once again, no new tasks, payment will be in a few days.

  16. Wow! This is simply insane. There was something nagging at me about this guy and the whole “Russia Art” assignment. I am so glad I listened to my gut and did a search for more information on this company. I reported this guy to IC3. Hopefully someone will stop him. A lot of people are getting hurt by this man, and that is NEVER okay. Thank you for putting up this site and warning people. The POWER of 1 really goes a long way.

This is the latest email I received: – It is identical to the one above!

    Hi Emma,

I just got off the phone with the client in regards to the painting. Your additional assistance is required.

Our client tried to pay western union on-line from their corporate account. Western Union advertises it’s possible to submit payments online, but when you try to send more than $1,000 a day from the account it won’t allow that much. I called western union and they told me you have to do that from any western union office.

Our client told me they spent like an hour trying to do something online, as they are used to do everything from their cash management online and talked to western union customer care but no luck. They need your assistance at this point because it was not possible to send the money online.

So, they want their assistant take care of everything. Since the art gallery requires only western union, our client will pay you the money for the painting in advance plus your bonus and you will western union art gallery. You will be paid additional $300 for that assignment.

First of all, I want you to understand that part-time assistant is not only virtual work from home. You have to work on assignment locally. Assisting with corporate gifting in one of your responsibilities. Our client trusts us because this is our existing client, they have already purchased a lot of stuff using our services.

Normally, you would pay western union with the company card. However, as per the contract, you will get the card only once you qualify your trial period. This is our company policy and we simply cannot provide company cards 1st week and then spend time on checking every expense.

Attached you will find direct deposit form. This is exactly the same as we use for payroll as well.

We expect our client will place deposit of approx.:

    * $8,000 (Painting). Shipping will be paid additionally.
    * $350 (approx. western union fees – might need to re-confirm with them)
    * $300 (Your Bonus)

    =======================

In case you can negotiate other payment options with the art gallery, so they provide with their bank account – our client will pay them directly. If no – your assistance is needed. It is important to realize that you are not required to take any action until you see the payment in your account. You may keep this account to received future payroll from WOW VIP Assistants. Let me know if your bank charges some $$$ to set up an account. This amount would be sent together with funds for the painting, western union transfer fees your bonus.

Again, there will be no checks. Our client will pay to your account (or the art gallery if available) and you will need to work on it only once the money is in your account.

Let me know if you have any questions. There are also other tasks already available, but I want to make sure this one is taken care 1st since this client is important to us.

  19. I too did the first assignment from “Matt Jacobs” even though it seemed like a scam. But when I received the second assignment 2 things struck me- 1. If the painting was damaged by the company who was shipping it- then they would have to pay… Not the client. That made me email him back with a follow up question. Then “he” wrote back in really broken English and moronically signed it Michael not Matt…that tipped me off and then I found this website… Now I have been getting phone calls from Atlanta (I live on the other side of the country). Matt emailed me (in perfect English) saying he had tried calling me. I am freaked out by this guy! We need to stop him or atleast spread the word!! I tweeter about it- spread spread spread and report!

  21. Hello,

This is what he sent me today. I am really ready to bust him. I have a friend who’s sister works for the FBI. I am going to forward this message to him now.

    * $350 (approx. western union fees – might need to re-confirm with them)
    * $300 (Your Bonus)

Most of them knew already and have a cease and stop relayed to him. They did say that he is from Russia and were having trouble contacting him. BUT, they were not giving up and are demanding he remove their info from his website.

    4) If any special booking procedures take place (for example car should be booked 3 business days in advance)
    5) Payment terms and options
Note: Please enter all information carefully. It will be verified with already available data in our database. Inaccurate or invalid information may serve a reason for terminating employment with you.
SECTION 3. Time Table and Reporting

    Delivery Format
    – Put everything inside one Microsoft Word file
    – Reports are often printed before considering, so make sure to copy all information and avoid links to external websites

  34. Good Afternoon ~ Here is the latest one i got today. Just wanna share with everyone. I have not acted on it, nor do i plan to. I think i will just be ignoring his emails from now on. but i would like my thousand for the past two weeks, LOL !! have a wonderful easter, be safe !!

    Hi Dawn,
For some reason there is a delay with the artist. You were sent an email where I have explained to you that our client is a millionaire, it’s a VIP. He pays, you are an assistant. He tried sending online to save time and it did not work out. It makes no difference for him where to pay – artist, you or someone else and long as the money is received by the artist. If our artist wants western union only, ok fine, provide with existing account or set up a new one.
You were hired not only be sitting in front of you PC, at home, but also do something outside if needed. You will be paid $300 additionally, just to take care of this project. Get the money ONCE it is in your account and pay with it to the western union/artist.
If you don’t have an account – set up a new one. Any additional costs will be reimbursed. When did you get my email? You could have already set up 3 account. So do not waste our time please. Our client has already called and inquired why there is nowhere to send the money. This is a corporate client. They pay from their corporate US account anywhere and the money will be there is a day. Go to any bank near your place today to set up an account if you have no and email me with a confirmation. Our client is leaving on Monday so you have today and Monday morning only to provide with an account so our client could send the money before they leave.

Just got my 2nd assignment and like a dumb ass I’ve been sending emails to russian art companies trying to located the imposter artist Andrew Gaal! SO GLAD I CAME ACROSS THIS ARTICLE while trying to complete the assignment. There is a GOD! I feel just as stupid as everyone else. I too am unemployed and took the bait as I needed the income, but had reservations. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is some sort of scam. Trust your instincts……..good advice hey! I agree that we should not let him know we are on to him. Report it to the authorities and let them get him! Thanks so much for this. Although I feel stupid, I am also very grateful to you and relieved!

It seems to me like we should be able to sue this piece of crap once he is caught. I believe he owes many of us at least $1000 for completing the first two weeks. After all, we did have a contract. Right? I personally went through a lot of time and trouble for this man, including having my bank account’s security compromised. I’m thankful Wachovia seen it for what it was. I’m even more thankful there was only $26 in my account when Michael Jacobs (or whatever his name is) tried to clean me out. I feel so foolish to be scammed by someone so unprofessional. I should have seen him for who he really is. But like many of you, I needed a job. I finally found a great company that is legit and I’m making money working from home, but I will never forget the BS I went through for Simply DoIt Assistants.

He is going to descretely look into this.
