Gift cards are the next best thing to having cash when you’re shopping. Also, although they technically aren’t cash, they can still be turned into cash via gift card-selling sites like Cardpool and Raise. And cash itself is king.

So, where can you go to score free gift cards and make cash? These 15 mobile apps have you complete tasks such as filling out a survey or check on a store display. In exchange, you accumulate points and credits that can quickly be redeemed for gift cards, cash or other rewards.

MyPoints

With this app, you can earn points by downloading and using coupons, viewing ads and videos, filling out offers and making online and in-store purchases. While the site is heavily geared towards purchasing, there are many other activities that you can complete without having to spend a dime. Once you reach about 650 points, you can start redeeming your earnings for gift cards.

Mobee

This app has you complete mystery shopping ‘missions’ and answer associated questions during your mission. You receive payment within 24 hours, which can be converted into gift cards or event tickets.

Swagbucks

With this app, you earn points (Swagbucks or SB) while shopping, watching videos, searching online, reading articles and filling out surveys. Once a threshold amount of SB is reached, you can redeem them for cash, gift cards and prizes.

Shopkick

This app awards kicks for walking into area stores, scanning store items with your phone, (occasionally) watching videos, and scanning your store receipts. Your awarded kicks can be redeemed for gift cards to Starbucks, Walmart, Target, Exxon, BP, etc.

Points2Shop

Much like Shopkick, Points2Shop awards points for checking into stores and scanning products. It also awards points for watching videos and filling out surveys. Points are redeemable for gift cards to major retailers like Walmart; they can also be cashed out via Paypal.

QuickRewards

This app has you complete tasks such as filling out surveys and offers, playing online games, watching videos, going shopping and visiting merchant websites. For every task you successfully complete, you earn points. Once you’ve accumulated enough points, you can redeem your points for cash or gift cards.

Iconzoomer

Take a picture of your lunch, your shower gel, or your jacket, add some comments to your photos, and earn credits for completing these assignments with Iconzoomer. You can eventually redeem those credits for cash.

SlicethePie

This app allows you to review everything from clothes to music, which helps recording artists, labels and brands make key decisions about scheduling, marketing and new product introduction. For your troubles, you are rewarded with cash.

I-Say Mobile

This app is the product of Ipsos, a well-known survey company. With their I-Say, you answer survey and polls and are rewarded with cash. The compensation per survey starts at $1 and can go as high as $95 for longer and more involved surveys. You can also collect and redeem your earnings for gift cards to iTunes and Amazon.

Receipt Hog

This app awards points and spins for your scanned receipts at grocery and liquor stores, gas stations, clothing retailers and restaurants. Once you reach the threshold of 1,000 points, you can redeem those points for both cash and gift cards.

iPoll

This survey app enables you to conduct surveys (missions) on-the-go or at home. Many surveys are multiple choice and easy to fill out. Completed missions pay at least $1, with longer missions offering more money. You can redeem your money via Paypal or by getting gift cards once your balance exceeds $10.

Panel App

With Panel, you are awarded points for walking around town and taking surveys based on your location. To this end, you’ll need to activate your mobile device’s GPS. Earned points can be redeemed for Amazon gift cards.

CheckPoints

This app is also very similar to Shopkick and has you earning points by walking into stores, scanning items and making product purchases. Unlike Shopkick, CheckPoints also frequently offers quizzes and videos so that members can earn points even when they’re not shopping or running errands. When enough points are earned, they can be redeemed for gift cards to retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, JC Penney and McDonalds.

Field Agent

With this app, you complete small mystery shopping assignments like checking on a drive-thru sign, finding a product at a store (or even in your home), and verifying placement/location of store displays. The pay for these small tasks is fairly good ($3-$7 on average), and you can cash out without having to reach a defined threshold.

EasyShift

Much like Field Agent, EasyShift pays you to do mini mystery shopping excursions where you check on a store display, make a small purchase, track down a product at a store, etc. Payments from your completed assignments are sent directly to your Paypal account.
