Make Money Online

Beware of Google Money Tree.

Google Money Tree. God that name sounds awful, doesn’t it? If life has taught me one thing, money doesn’t grow on trees. It most certainly doesn’t grow on the Internet either. I think it’s safe to say that Google simply isn’t handing money out to individuals. Yes, Google is awesome, but not that awesome. So, why does Google Money Tree claim that you can become rich using Google? Let’s find out.

Google Money Tree boasts that yes, you too, can be making $107,389 in just six months by filling out forms and doing searches on Google and Yahoo. I’ve been filling in forms and searching Google and Yahoo for almost ten years now! By their calculations, I should have had over $2,000,000 sitting in my bank account right now!

Of course, the information on how to become a successful millionaire is going to cost you some money upfront first. It’s not too bad this time around, just $3.88 for shipping and handling. Something seems oddly fishy about this website though. There appears to be a lot of information lacking. I think I should check the Terms and Conditions I am agreeing to before I send away my credit card information.

The initial shipping and handling charge of three dollars and eighty eight cents, which includes the Google Money Tree Kit as well as seven days worth of access to the online directories and training. After seven days, if you choose not to cancel you will be billed your first monthly membership fee of seventy two dollars and twenty one cents for the membership fee for the googlemoneytree.com membership.

Google Money Tree’s Hidden Charges

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, WHOA. You’re going to bill me $72.21 in seven days if I don’t cancel these charges first? What the hell kind of shady business practices are you guys running? There’s absolutely no mention of these hidden charges on the presell page. You have to dig through the terms and conditions before you find these hidden charges. Other gems on that page include this lovely line: “No refunds of any kind will be issued after 7 days of any transaction date.” If you wait to receive a bank or credit card statement in the mail, you can forget about seeking a refund. You’ll have to dispute the charges with your credit card company and if you paid with a debit card, there’s a lovely phrase that goes something like: You’re shit out of luck.

I don’t have anything to say about the actual work at home kit you receive, but it would be safe to bet that it is probably garbage. Google Money Tree is just looking to scam you out of as much money as possible before you even realize it. Don’t do business with them and most certainly do not give them your private information.

Our good friend Paul over at the Work at Home Truth Blog has warned his readers about the Google Money Tree scam previously and recommends you file a complaint with the FTC at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ if you have received any fraudulent charges from Google Money Tree. Hopefully our combined efforts will end scams like these. Thanks Paul.

  1. so they dont event send the kit and that is the trick now i understand cause if they would have send the kit something like 80.00$ on a 5000.00$ who would say that it doesnt work but if they dont event let you make the money wow they should be really a shame of them

  2. I’ve tried a lot of money making opportunities also and been ripped off countless times. The latest ripoff involves a website called “easywebcontent.com”. They have one of those try it free schemes and then if you don’t cancel they’ll charge you (it’s in the fine print of course). It’s a shameful business practice and one you shoudld try to avoid at all costs. I happened upon this website because I got an email from Google Money Tree this morning and wanted to investigate. After reading through the comments, I thought I would share an article that I’ve written over at Triond.com. It offers some very timely tips on what to look for and what to avoid when trying to find a home business opportunity. I wanted to share it with the readers of this blog in hopes that it might spare someone from falling prey to the types of scams mentioned here. The url is as follows:

  3. YOU GUYS ARE ONLY TALKING ABOUT THE HIDDEN $70. WHAT ABOUT THE ACTUAL KIT? If you still make money than it shouldn’t matter–which I know sounds really gullable or ignorant to say; to continue having hope in something that seems distrustful because of a charge that isn’t shown in your face, but HERE’S WHY I’M WONDERING: PLACES SUCH AS DOESITBANK.COM SAY UP-FRONT THAT THE INITIAL FEE IS $73.94 (Without even mentioning or talking about the $3 shipping fee)AND THEY SAY IT DOES MAKE YOU MONEY, ALTHOUGH THERE ARE ALSO BETTER ONES THEY RECOMMEND. (One of which is related to Robert Allen’s program, which has indeed been proven several times to work, but I wanted some quicker more immediate cash). SO HAS ANYONE ACTUALLY USED THE KIT?????????

    Reply
    • Jeremy, no one has used the kit because it apparently doesn’t exist. At least, lots of people who sign up complain that they never received one. Check out this excellent blog post on the subject. Search for “kit” in the comments and you’ll see what I mean.

  4. If I was a lumberjack I’d cut down the google money trees so they fell on to the creators houses….and crushed their souls. After I signed up for the kit I recieved a multitude of XXX pornographic charges to my credit card!! I can’t believe people are so heartless :(

  6. I just got scammed. They just got away with debiting my checking account two months in a row. It is not clearly stated on the website when you sign up for the “free kit” that they are going to be scamming you out of $72.11 every month! BAD – BAD Business practices.

  7. Ads for “blogs” claiming the success of GoogleMoneyTree.com have been popping up on Facebook a lot recently. So now they’re targeting broke college students in an attempt to rip them off! Thankfully I did my research before buying into this and won’t fall for this scam.

  9. hello all, thanks so much for putting this warning about this nasty scam out there. recvd the ‘invite’ from google money tree in my inbox. thought that it is really from GOOGLE itself. but, b4 i signed up, thought i googled it first and lo and behold found this site. i am sorry that so many people got cheated by these scums. is there nothing we can do besides complaining to ?fdic? is there no one that can ‘touch’ them and put them out of biz, even in jail?

ya’ know, in this tough time, all of us are just trying to tought it out the best we can. so every ingling of hope of getting ahead and paying our bills looks like a lifeline. it is easy to forget to read the fine lines, still nobody deserve to be robbed like this. is just not right.

  10. You know, I was going to try this too until I read the terms and conditions and these messages. Times are so hard out here, I just got laid off of my job, my husband is totally diabled at 60 and is only getting a small amount of SSI. We don’t have a lot, so I am looking for a way to make some extra monies until I find another job. So are many people like me, and seeing these kinds of things on the internet sometimes gives a person a little ray of hope, thinking that maybe just maybe this could work. I always read the terms and conditions, but thats just me, not everyone does and people that are trying to scam others needs to be thrown in jail or something worse.
I am sorry about those of you that this has happened to, and I agree with one of the writers, that if you want to help all of us, post that CD out here for FREE, that would get back at those rats.

Be careful out there and God Bless.

  11. There is an old addage. “If its too good to be true, it probably is”. And this is true about anything, money, work, relationships, you just won 6 million so give me your bank details so I can deposit it into your account.. Email is sent to an undisclosed list. No one deserves to be conned but people do. There is nothing new about any of this. Its an old act in a new medium. I recall a few years ago (1992) I was in San Francisco and popped into one of those electronic stores and saw a little battery powered shaver that was not marked. I asked how much is that, they said $99 but for you $25.. I though what the heck ?. it must only be worth $15. So I told the guy to pull the other one, it has bells on it.. (English term, meaning don’t pull my leg).. Anyway I walked out, they called me back in and gave it to me for $15 but wanted to charge me $15 for a $2 battery..

So the moral of the story is, don’t be conned. And its wasy. Trust but verify. And don’t buy anything because you are desperate.

    Cheers

  13. By accident I saw the Google Money Tree ad. I visited the website and all that. Sounded very attractive. Then I read the Terms and Conditions and saw the hidden fees. And how the terms are one-sided favorable – to them!

How many people have ignored the thousands of Terms and Condition pages to everything under to sun and are virtually programmed to click past these things? Well, this is what the outfits like Google Money Tree count on!

I’m glad I searched for scam warnings on this outfit before I fell for it. I’m really sorry for all of you that fell into this pit! Let’s be safer out there.

  17. I never clicked on the Google Tree website, nor did I ever sign up for any of its fees. However, my bank account had both the #3.88 and the $72.21 charges for it. My antivirus software apparently was not working right and allowed a Phishing program in to the computer.
So not only is this company scamming people, they are also hacking into computers. Great…

I was sick with worry because of a cut back at work. Also because of illness I had missed work so I thought hey try something online to make a little extra money to make ends work. Be aware that the charge on the bank account was called Google HIDDEN Treasures. Hidden thats for sure. Not only was I charged the $72. something and the shipping cost but now I have a fat overdraft…The 7 day trial sucks too…There was nothing for me to try, I was still waiting for my info…oh well. Thanks for letting me know I’m not the only one. This is the first and the very LAST time I will be taken.

  19. I just saved my father-in-law from making this mistake. I always, ALWAYS look on the internet for the SCAM sites that do research on these types of things and read what they have to say. I agree with those who have said that you should follow the old addage about if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is and then immediately research it using the scam alert websites on the net.
To those berating everyone who fell for this scam, I have only this to say. Tough times make people do things they normally wouldn’t do in a million years. You throw caution to the wind in the hope that you will solve your problems and reap a windfall. I know, I’ve been there once or twice myself. I don’t think that anyone deserves to be scammed or preyed upon (yes, these people are the most vile kind of predator) by others. Ignorance exercised out of desperation is an oversight that can be overlooked unless you are so cold and callous that you really believe that those who are victims “got what they deserved”.
Our financial situation in this country is such that people will do things they normally wouldn’t. Seeing your family go without is a great motivator for going out on a limb and doing something that you might think in the back of your mind is wrong but worth the risk if it can make it easier for them. Anyone who doesn’t understand that either doesn’t have a family, has never found themselves in that place or doesn’t have a heart.
Take care everyone, be safe and always check out these claims.

  30. The worst scammer promoting Google Money Tree is this site – http://www.carlasmoney.com.

Even has the obligatory cute little girls and smiling Mom picture to give that ‘work at home, easy money feel’.

Firstly, you will be charged 68.00 per month when you order her ‘Free Government Small Business Grant Kit’. Secondly, Google Money Tree is a scam and your credit card will be charged on a monthly basis until you try to ask them to stop. Their phone number and email will go unanswered.
You will be out of at least $100 bucks for nothing, when you sign up at CarlasMoney.com

    Stay away.

  31. Steve,

Thanks for posting this for your readers. I’ll be doing a lot of research on negative option marketing this year. The FTC has a lot of detailed information and the National Consumer’s League has been very active in trying to make things better.

EagleResearchAssociates.org is a terrific new resource. They primarily deal with investment scams but they have a lot of insight on what it takes for certain Federal agencies to get involved – and sometimes it’s NOT the amount of money involved.

  32. To everyone here. Please, from here onwards, use the old addage that “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is”. I cannot believe so many people fall for these money for nothing scams. The same reason the entire world economy is in the toilet. Bankers making money out of thin air and people buying into it. Its like vagas. They are in it for taking YOUR money away, not making you money. The house always wins.

It is really a cheating behaviour from the concern. They say your order will be cancelled, but will not refund the money back and asking me to read the terms and conditions. You Pay $3.88, they take $72.21 without your knowledge or approval. It seems if we don’t cancel, they continue doing it monthly. MONEY DOES NOT GROW IN TREES OR INTERNET.
