  9. It’s a FAKE check. It won’t clear and you’ll likely get the cops called on you for trying to illegally cash a forged check.

    At best, you face legal repercussions. You will not get a few thousand dollars for free.

  13. I just responded to one of these scams for Amp Energy drink. I just sent them my info but that’s it. I don’t even have any banking accounts so what would they have told me to do then? Just cash it anywhere and send them the money? I would have figured that a scam right off the bat if they would have told me to send them the money back. Hahaha. Anyone know a legal car advertising place…I wouldn’t mind at all getting paid to have something plastered all over my car!!!

  14. Please do not cash these checks or even encourage others to cash the checks. The absolute best case scenario is that you get hit with hefty bank fees for depositing a fake check. Losing your identity, thousands of dollars, or getting questioned by the authorities are all extremely likely scenarios as well.

  16. So I’ve went as far as just waiting for check at this point which means they have my information. Can they do anything with it and if I do ever get a check do I even accept it or do I acccept it and tear it up? If I was to send check to whatever bank is on it with info from scammer would that be best way to go? I guess I’m most worried about what if anything they can do with my info?

They have not asked me to deposit then withdraw and send money back. What if someone was to scam the scammer and just take their check to a check cashing place or is it a fake check a well?

  32. Saw this on CraigsList today, and nearly bit. The giveaway for me was that they would only do business via text, rather than e-mail. I’d even prepared the e-mail to send to them, only to realize there was no e-mail address! So, I checked to see if this was a scam, and sure enough, it was!

    Thanks everyone for putting this stuff up. I am, BTW, a finance professional and am familiar with legitimate car wrapping, and thought this was one of those. Just goes to show that even if you know “stuff”, you don’t know *all* the “stuff”.

  39. As a follow-up to my post above, I “went ahead” with the scammers to see what they would do (with inaccurate info given to them). They sent me out a check, Express Mail (which cost them about $20). The check was from an account from a legitimate university/hospital that’s in Texas. I questioned the scammer as to what the university/hospital in Texas had to do with anything. He came up with some nonsense that they did a deal with them and they had excess energy drinks they needed to pay off.

    I contacted the head of the real university/hospital to inquire and let them know what was going on. They told me it was a scam, and asked me to send the check to them, which I did along with the Express Mail envelope and all of the information I had so that hopefully they could pursue the scammers.

    I hope they find them and throw them in jail for a long time!

  46. At best, you get hit with a fee for trying to cash a fraudulent check. At worst, the authorities start questioning you because you’re accepting checks that originated from stolen bank accounts sent to you from overseas criminals.

    These guys are professional thieves. DO NOT do any “work” for them. You will lose an absolute ton of money and you can even gain a criminal record.

    They failed to say how much the check that was to be sent to me “via courier service” would be written for.

  49. After filling out the advertisement and sending it back, I got a return to inform me I had been accepted. The acceptence is as follows below:

    I am please to inform you that you meet our laid out plans for this advertisement your information has been received. Below are some questions you need to answer before we can proceed.

    How long do you intend to carry the advert on your car 1 month, 2 months or 3 months?
    Do you use your car everyday?
    Have you crashed a car between Dec 2011 till date?
    PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR INTEREST (YES/NO):

    You will be receiving the payment envelope for your first week of Red bull Advertisement.

    You will make use of the funds in completing your the experts placement fee and it also covers part of your weekly salary.

    Upon receiving the cashier’s check, you are to go ahead and have it cashed at your local bank and deduct $600 which is your upfront payment for the first week and have the balance sent to our new specialist head office who will be responsible for the advert placement on your car.

    They are waiting to receive the funds in other to get the materials needed for the advert placement ready, the balance would be sent to the Advert booking office of the agency once you get it cashed and deduct the $600

    Our specialist shall contact you as soon as he the funds is received, to schedule the perfect day to come for the placement which would last for 4hrs to 5hrs max for placement.

    Acknowledge receipt of this email immediately.

    Note: Red bull will take full responsibility for placing and remove decal on your car and it will not resort to any damage.

    But in the first letter it was only $300.00 up front. They are now going to double my weekly salary. Hmmmmmmmm. I call Bull Shit, not Red Bull.
