Vemma: A Healthy Scam?

We all want to be healthy, to eat right, to exercise plenty and to feel good in our own skin. Sometimes though, it is hard work to stay fit and healthy, and having supplements can help us out.

Enter Vemma. They sell a vitamin & mineral supplement drink.

I bet you are thinking, “OK Dean, why are you talking about health drinks?” The reason is because Vemma is also an MLM company, and while I will state right now that it is not a scam or illegal, please read on to find out why you should think carefully about signing up or even avoid this one at all costs.

Vemma the MLM

Just a refresher for those that don’t know, MLM stands for Multi Level Marketing but is also known as Network Marketing.

The basic premise is that you sell the products and recruit other people underneath you to also sell the products of which you get a small commission.

The general rule of thumb with MLM systems though is it’s only the people at the top (the owners) that make any money or any real money.

You can sign up to Vemma and get a bunch of different products from them:

  • 4 bottles of Vemma® (32-oz bottles, 30-day supply for 2 people)
  • 1 V2 Fridge Brick (30 – 2-oz bottles)
  • 2 bottles of Vemma NEXT® (32-oz bottles)
  • 24 cans of Verve® Energy Drink (8.3-oz cans)
  • 12 cans of Verve Zero Sugar Energy Drink (8.3-oz cans)
  • 12 cans of Verve Bold Energy Drink (8.3-oz cans)
  • 1 bag of Bod•ē Shake Vanilla Ice Cream flavor (16 meals/bag)
  • 1 bag of Bod•ē Shake Chocolate Ice Cream flavor (16 meals/bag)
  • 1 Vemma Success Kit

On top of that you will get a Business Builder Pack, which consists of:

  • A FREE marketing website which utilizes social media to help you tell your story like never before.
  • A FREE mobile app with innovative text videos and cutting-edge tracking to manage your business activity.
  • A FREE success kit with the necessary tools every new Brand Partner should have to help you jump-start your business.
  • A variety of Vemma products to share with others.
  • A proven system of training tools and field leadership support.
  • Full eligibility for the Rewards & Recognition Program, including a brand-new BMW paid for by Vemma.
  • Freedom and flexibility to be in control of your business, your time and your success.
  • A supportive upline and a corporate Home Office team of industry-experienced professionals dedicated to your success.
  • A lucrative income from products you never have to ship or exchange money for. No merchant accounts, shipping, processing, customer service or other tedious tasks.

The Downside

I listed everything you get because all of this costs a fortune! To get started with Vemma, the basic package (outlined above) costs $499.95 or $999.95 for a bigger pack.

48 drinks, 32 portions of icecream and a marketing kit for $500 bucks? WOW!

Not only that but after purchase you are set up automatically to pay $126 a month for 2 32oz bottles.

Edit: You can actually get started with Vemma without buying anything, but it is so hard to find this information I bet virtually no one does.

This is a lot of money to pay for out of pocket on a product that is expensive to sell, with no guarantee of selling it. Most of Vemma’s competing products can be bought at a supermarket for half the price, and there is no solid evidence that Vemma’s products will actually improve fitness or health.

The site makes bold claims that you can make a full time wage with a part time job by selling Vemma. In order to do that, you would need an awful lot of marketing and face-to-face sales, and some competency with online marketing.

The company does provide basic websites for those members who are buying into their products but realistically speaking these sites are cookie cutter sites, and you would be better off with your own.

The reality of Vemma, just like with any other MLM system, is that in order to make a profit and to regain money spent on purchasing the product (as you will have to give at least some of it away as testers) you need to sell a LOT and you need to recruit a LOT.

The company doesn’t pay you for selling though they do give you reward points for hiring new sellers. You have to make the money back by selling an already over priced product.

I would love to know how much Vemma earns from the distributors buying the product compared to how much the distributors earn.

Something tells me Vemma gets the better end of the deal.

The Bottom Line

Regular readers will know that I am not fond of MLM schemes, whether there is a product to sell like with Vemma or MLM’s evil brother the Pyramid scheme.

However, as mentioned at the start, Vemma is not a scam. It is a large, international company that’s uses an MLM system to sell products. If nothing else, you do get something for your cash even if it is an overpriced health drink.

Generally speaking, 97-99% of people who sell products under an MLM system will not make any money; many of those will in fact lose money.

So unless you want the product for yourself with the possibility of offsetting the cost by selling some from time to time, or unless you are an amazing marketing who could sell snow to Eskimos then MLM programs like Vemma should be avoided.

Beware of Resume Scams When Looking for Work

If I told you that I’d critique and revise your resume for just $1, would you believe me?

OneBuckResume

This is precisely what the resume writing service, OneBuckResume, promises. When you hover your mouse over the site’s Resume Builder tab, there’s even the grammatically incorrect promise “Use the patented $1 resume builder, and we’ll complete your resume in less than 5 minutes”. However, when you scroll through the site’s Terms & Conditions (T&C’s) box, it says the following:

Resume Distribution: By clicking the checkbox below, you signify your acceptance of seven days of free resume  distribution services. IF YOU CONTINUE USING THE RESUME DISTRIBUTION SERVICE, YOUR CREDIT CARD WILL BE CHARGED $5.88 ONCE EVERY THIRTY DAYS THEREAFTER, UNLESS CANCELLED.

There is no way to not click the checkbox, since it signifies that you agree to abide by the site’s T&C’s. There is also no defined way to cancel the $5.88/month charge except by submitting support tickets through the site; no contact phone number or email is provided. Also, because the extra $5.88 monthly charge is posted on the company’s site, this disclosure allows it to make the “Didn’t you read the T&C’s?” rebuttal.

However, as several Ripoff Report testimonials attest, the site also posts fake job postings on Craigslist and asks job applicants to use OneBuckResume to properly format their resumes prior to sending them off to the hiring company. Unsuspecting job applicants pay the $1 fee and send their resumes to the provided email- only to have those emails bounce back to them as unrecognized. After 7 days, the mysterious $5.88 monthly charges begin.

TheLadders

Another resume site, TheLadders, was sued in district court on March 13, 2013 for not only posting fake, unauthorized and/or misleading $100K job opportunities but for also not delivering on its resume writing service promise. TheLadders, as noted by Barbara Ward (the Plaintiff),

…promised a free “expert resume critique” for its premium members. However, TheLadders did not actually review resumes that were submitted by its premium members. Instead…TheLadders sent its members a form letter that failed to provide any resume criticism responsive to members’ individual resumes. The sole purpose of the form letter was to up-sell members into useless paid resume re-writing services…

Resume scams abound because, in this crappy economy, it’s very easy to take advantage of people who are scrambling to find work. The scammers often play on people’s fears, telling them that their resumes lack important “action items” that will prevent them from being hired.

Even when professionally written resumes are submitted to these scam sites,  they are ripped up and cited as needing extensive work. Of course, a scam site will naturally rip up any resume, even its own generated resume, in order to make a quick buck. And the bucks, in this case, aren’t just $30 or $40; in the case of TheLadders, members who sent their resumes to be re-written were charged about $700!

Where can you find legitimate resume writing services?

Hardcore resume writers are often certified members of the National Résumé Writers’ Association (NRWA) and/or the Professional Association of Résumé Writers & Career Coaches (PARW/CC). These writers don’t hide behind a resume writing site (although they may be employed by it); typically, you’ll find writer profiles and work examples on the site’s “About Me/Us” page. The better resume writers will be industry-specific and have some kind of education or experience in their chosen focus (e.g., law).

Beware of online forms

Granted, with almost everyone being online now, you are bound to have some online forms to fill out when you start working with a resume writing service. However, the writer working on your resume should contact you personally to obtain additional information from you. This typically includes several phone interviews spanning a total of 3-5 hours for a top-notch resume site. Local agencies may also schedule you for an in-person session with the writer.

Even a budget resume writer should speak with you personally for at least half an hour. Beware of resume sites that are online only and where you cannot reach anyone over the phone. Typically, this indicates that the writers (if any) are being paid slave wages by the site and have limited English language speaking/writing skills.

While working with a “resume mill” does not exclude you from obtaining a meaningful resume, it will probably require that you do significant editing and formatting of your own document (this issue has been reported for the resume mill e-resume.net, which pays its writers Taco Bell wages for resumes worth $155). This negates much of the reasoning behind hiring a resume writer in the first place.

Don’t forget to use Google

Google knows all, as I like to say. Before you consider working with any resume site, do a quick online search of that site with the word “scam” plugged into your search query. If you find testimonial after testimonial from dissatisfied customers or even records of a lawsuit, steer clear of that agency.

Questions to ask before you pay any money

Even “good” resume writing sites can be riddled with issues. Before you hire any resume service to take on your resume, be sure to ask the following questions of the writer:

1. What are all the steps of this process and associated fees? Alternately: What do you charge per hour and what does that cover?

2. What advantages do you personally offer when compared with other resume writers?

3. Can I speak with your previous clients and/or see their “before and after” resumes? If a writer cannot provide either, find another writer/service.

4. What guarantees do you offer (e.g., limitless revisions, money back if not satisfied)?

Other things to keep in mind

As the potential client, you should expect a free evaluation of your resume before you plunk down any money. Once you become an actual client, however, up-front payment is required from most resume writing sites. Expect the entire resume critiquing to writing to revision process to take anywhere from two weeks to even over a month; good results don’t happen overnight (or in “less than 5 minutes”).

Finally, be sure to keep your receipt; resume writing services are viewed as a legitimate employment-seeking activity through the eyes of the IRS and are tax-deductible.

Is SixFigureKit.com a Scam?

Ah the old, “I make millions of dollars online and now you can too for just $27” trick. Their advertising must be working because this has been one of the most requested programs for me to review in a long time.

Let’s take a look around, shall we?

Is the Six Figure Program at SixFigureKit.com a Scam?

It’s a program put together by two guys named Dave Clabeaux and Ben Moskel. These guys have been advertising very heavily lately. The very first thing they claim is that they make $1.2 million dollars per year and sometimes make $22,000 in a single day. These are seriously the very first claims they make.

Ben learned how to make all this money online after he found out that a coworker of his was making $10,000 a month with just one simple website. They talked and his coworker gave him her “one simple trick” and after just a few hours of work was able to start making $300/day following his coworkers system. Two years later he quit his job and now wants to sell you this secret for just $27.

Man does this one stink.

Let’s ask two rather obvious questions:

1. Ben starts his story about how miserable his job was and how he hated his boss. Yet he has a coworker that makes over $120,000 per year from one website and yet the coworker still works at his company. Why wouldn’t she quit?

2. Ben was able to start making over $300/day (again that’s a six-figure yearly salary) but still worked at a job he hated for 2 more years? Why wouldn’t HE quit?

Ben goes on to talk about how the Six Figure Program at SixFigureKit.com isn’t a get rich quick scheme and it’s only for motivated people. He then backs up this statement by showing checks reaching well into the five figures that he received by doing relatively no work. Of course, any identifying information is blacked out meaning these checks could have been issued to just about anyone.

There’s not much left on the sales page after that. A few questionable testimonials, some more pictures of money, and then a sign up box. I did wander over to the FAQ section and found these two gems tucked in there…

How Long Before I Start Making Money?
The Six-Figure-Program shows you exactly what to do to immediately start making money. If you follow the instructions you can realistically receive your first commission check within about 7-10 days.

I See a lot of “Get Rich Quick” Schemes – is your Product like them?
We are not a scam! There are a great number of people who will sell you the latest “get rich quick scheme.” These people will tell you that you can get rich by selling garbage on E-Bay or Investing in real estate with no money down. Those programs are all the same: they promise you the moon, but never deliver a thing. Most of these programs tell you that you will get rich, but never actually tell you what you will actually be doing!

Ick, this one doesn’t smell pleasant. I can’t see how you could possibly be receiving checks 7-10 days after you join. Given my experience with affiliate companies and how they operate this is not even remotely realistic. Do you know how much work it takes to start an affiliate marketing business? I also love how they think making $300/day within just a few days isn’t considered get rich quick. I really wish I could join their fantasy world.

Should You Join SixFigureKit.com?

I think we both know the answer to that.

I had every intention to actually sign up and review the information they sold. I entered a unique name and email address specifically for this program. It was a requirement to view the order page. I didn’t sign up right away, but they did capture some of my personal information.

Within a few MINUTES, I found two emails tucked away in my spam folder. One was advertising personal online coaching from a company called Prosper and another was a link to my first “home job kit.” This link took me to a fake news website and advertised fake work at home jobs. These sites are exact replicas of the fake news sites being shut down by the FTC.

The mere fact that these two guys are peddling these scams is enough of a reason for me NOT to give them my credit card information. I absoltuely will not be taking a look inside this one. Instead, I’ll turned to some real reviews by real people who have actually signed up for the program.

I wasn’t surprised to find that mostly every one who signed up had a complaint to file. The most common complaints are…

  1. The information you receive for $27 is very basic affiliate marketing information found free anywhere on the web.
  2. You’re just going to be continually sold products.
  3. Support is very hard to get a hold of and often rude at times.
  4. It’s all just a ploy to get you signed up for more products.
  5. It’s very hard to get a refund.

Not ONCE did I read a positive report where someone was able to earn any money follow their system, let alone in the “realistic 7-10 days” claim made by these guys.

Let’s get one thing straight though. Internet/Affiliate Marketing DOES work. It’s not easy, especially when you’re just starting out. You cannot decide to start an Internet Marketing business and realistically expect to start making thousands of dollars per day.

Please do not buy into the hype.

If you’ve had any experiences with SixFigureKit.com, please leave a comment/review below.

I’ve Tried That Investigates: The Online Business

I started out looking for a J-O-B, and then I found this website. Now, I earn six-figures every year working from home. Oh yes, dear reader, you too can be earning over $100,000 from your home. It’s absolutely true. Wait, what’s that? You want to know what you’ll be doing to make money? Well, you’ll be earning money of course! Not satisfied with my answer? BUT YOU’LL BE MAKING SIX FIGURES FROM HOME. GIVE ME YOUR MONEYYYYYYYYY.

The above is an actual rendition of a conversation you’d have if you were able to contact the people behind The Online Business.

The Claims

Nothing new. For just $50, you’ll make tons of money sitting on your ass. You will collect thousands of checks working for yourself. That’s right. You send them money, they send you an “information kit” and you dance in the money that is literally pouring through your front door.

I couldn’t really find any information on what you would be doing. There was some mention how the business had over a billion dollar in sales back in 2005. Obviously, you’ll have to sell something but they never come outright and tell you that. I already know what you’ll be selling and if you read some of our previous reviews, you should know by now what it is as well.

The Truth

Surprise! Another Herbalife scam.

Click here to learn more about online scams and how to protect yourself.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that Herbalife is a scam. The scam is that the guys behind theonlinebusiness.com, incomeathome.com and Online Business Systems are deliberately hiding the word Herbalife from you. Not only that, they charge you $50 just to tell you about the company! That’s it! You’ll receive a packet stuffed full of fake testimonials on how great it is to work with Herbalife.

This review is short, but I’m sick of talking about Herbalife. Read our Partner with Paul and Crazy Fox reviews if you want more information.

Don’t visit their website.

Don’t give them your email.

Don’t send them your money.

I’ve Tried That Investigates: StoresOnline.com

I received a few requests to do a review of a program called StoresOnline. Apparently, it’s a company that sells eCommerce websites and training. They advertise seminars that are taking place all over the world and they invite you to come in, have some lunch, receive a free MP3 player, and listen to their pitch on how they’ll set you up with a profitable website.

They are a very intimidating and pushy bunch and try and convince you that you NEED StoresOnline if you want to have any shot at making money online. After the presentation, you’ll be forced to talk to a closer who will try and scare you to signup on the spot with the company. He or she will promise you that the company will build a couple websites for you and help you maintain them. Total cost? $6,000 plus monthly fees for website maintenance.

Yes, I did just say $6,000.

Is StoresOnline.com a Scam?

Unfortunately, this is one program I won’t be able to try personally. I simply don’t have the time to attend a conference, listen to someone spout nonsense, and decline a pushy sales person. So, I’ll be outsourcing the majority of the review.

Let’s start with their BBB report…

BBB Rating for Storesonline Inc

Based on BBB files, Storesonline Inc has a BBB Rating of F.

Factors that lowered this business’ rating include:

  • 807 complaints filed against business
  • Government action(s) against business
  • Business has failed to resolve underlying cause(s) of a pattern of complaints

807 whopping complaints. This is the most I’ve ever seen against a single company. Plus the government is taking action against them and they have a history of not responding to customers. At this point, the review should be done, but I have to continue with a few customer horror stories.

MARJOH at scam.com writes…

I am very upset, it’s been a year that I felt for this…I went to the seminar and at that time I believe that it could be a good opportunity for me! but after a year of trying to make my website with no luck, I know that they are such a lie…I paid for the package $6k a year ago, and now they are calling me saying that if I need to get started my own business, they can help me if I invest from 9k to 10k, can you believe that? A year ago I didn’t have the 6k I used my cc to pay it and now with no business, with this economy they are asking me for more!!!!! I just want my 6k back and I don’t know what to do, I already called them and asked that if they don’t give me my money back I will sue them because they promise things that never happen!! and they didn’t care! I am out of 6k and don’t know what to do…Any advice will be appreciate it, thanks.

After taking $6,000, StoresOnline wanted an additional $10,000. Seriously.

goodpasture writes…

Stores Online is definately a scam everybody. I went to their free lunch and it cost me over $4000. My credit card won’t even allow me to back out. And yea they gave me that 3 day crap as well. Stores Online is the biggest wate of money ever. Plus let me mention that it’s not only $4000 for their ‘software” but they have all other additionals that they try to high-pressure you into buying and if you ever want to go live with your $4000 websites you just purchased did I mention there is a $29 PER MONTH PER WEBSITE fee for hosting it and you have to host it on their server or you lose half the stuff that their software does for you of course.

mmtrem writes…

About a month ago I received a postcard in the mail about attending a seminar to make money online from home. StoresOnline was the company holding this seminar that offered a free lunch. So, I held my spot to go and check it out. Most of the stuff they covered I have already known but they were offering another class for an 8 hour session for $99. They said the class was to learn about SEO so I was very interested in going. It was offered for the $99 for two people. So my friend and I went to this all day class. They never taught much of what they said they would but only to talk about how much money other people have made with the services they offered. I did learn a few things that will be of help to me in the future… however, they were selling two different packages, A Silver package for $3,400 and a Platinum package for $6,000 and then $29.95 a month. Whoa! Hold on a second… For real?

And I could go on and on and on. There are thousands of these reports out there. Don’t fall for the hype of the free MP3 player they offer for attending the seminar either. There are more complaints regarding not receiving the MP3 player than there are against the company itself.

Oh, and everyone says the lunch sucks.

So what do I suggest? It should be fairly obvious but stay as far away from StoresOnline as possible.

If you’ve had any experience with the company or even attended a seminar, let me know what you thought in the comments below.

Beware of TekCollect

Ah, the old bait-and-switch. This week, it’s a company called TekCollect, or TCI and they operate http://www.tekcollect.com. They’re advertising a Sales Rep job with a “base pay” starting at $75k with a chance of earning more depending on performance. There’s just one problem, there is NO base pay or benefits, and you have to pay $330 upfront for training materials.

Here is the current job ad that’s floating around…

And here are a few actual experiences with the company…

TekCollect Report #1

Anyway, in addition to what you said I’d like to also mention they are perpetrating this scam by using legitimate on-line job boards such as Career Builder, Indeed, and Monster to seduce candidates with their claim of a “$75,000-$100,000 base pay” Sales Rep job. There is NO base pay, not even a draw. This is a 100% commission Independent Contractor sales position with NO benefits. As for the job itself, be prepared for business owners/CFOs to lie about their finances (which ruins your chances to fit a program around their actual outstanding receivables, thereby killing the sale and/or your potential commission), and to get them to show you their A/R books is like pulling teeth! Then trying to convince them to pay an up-front fee to collect money they’ve already written off as bad debt is the textbook definition of a tough sell.

By the way, I never got my “refundable training & materials fee” back, and my guess is 90% of the frustrated and broke sales reps they sucker into this scheme never do either… they are either terminated (due to sales inactivity) or quit because they’re not making enough money long before they’d meet the accounts sold requirements for the alleged refund. And, as you said, when you’re gone TCI keeps the residual income from YOUR few sales, and you have effectively wasted your time AND paid to bird dog/prospect the market for them.

TekCollect Report #2

This company uses illegal bait & switch tactics to attract help by stating that they hire full time employees and pay a base salary of $75k-$100k. They actually do not hire any full time employees — they only hire 1099 subcontractors and instead of giving any kind of base they insist on a deposit from the candidate of $350 to get started. They also say that they are looking to move people up into management roles and that’s also a 1099 experience. This company cannot earn my trust by lying about their positions available. I use this rip-off report every time I even think about applying to a company, now.

TekCollect Report #3

The contracted agents of TekCollect Daniel Campbell and Peter Klaver fraudulently and purposefully misled our company to believe that they would recover money owed us due to bad checks in a timely fashion and under “any circumstance”. When the above reps were asked direct and specific questions to clarify the contract and money back guarantee they flat out lied to gain contract signature. They Assured us that we would recieve our money back if TekCollect did not collect 400% of our $3600.00 investment. We specifically asked for details of the program with the reps and were assured that we could use any checks up to six years old and we could expect money to be collected within months. With their so called clarification of the contract they then pressured us into signing the contract. No funds have been collected by TekCollect. When I contacted Tom Cie, Dir. of Client Svcs he said and I quote “I don’t care what my rep said to you” when I explained the above issue of misrepresentation and our displeasure with the lack of performance of TekCollect

And there are hundreds of similar complaints posted around the web. This particular thread at Scam.com is well worth the read if you’re still even remotely considering working for these guys.

My advice: stay far, far away.

No Industry is Safe from Fake Check Scams

Scammers are stepping up their game, yet again. They’re still posting fake job ads, but the ads themselves look legitimate. It’s not until two or three emails in will you know that the job ad is actually fake. At that point, the scammer has already collected your personal information and this can include your full name, address, birthday, phone number or even your social security number.

You have to be insanely cautious these days. If something sounds too good to be true, it ALWAYS is. Read job ads in-depth and double check for grammatical errors and phrases that aren’t regularly used in your area. Don’t give up your personal information until you’re absolutely 100% without a doubt sure the job is real.

Today’s post comes from an anonymous I’ve Tried That reader. They write…

I’ve recently discovered a scam that I found on Craigslist targeting people who want to work or work in the film/tv industry. Here’s how it goes:

They post an ad on Craigslist like this:

Film/Tv job.

Date: 2010-05-20, 2:26PM
A film crew is a group of people hired by a production company for the purpose of producing a film or motion picture. Crew are distinguished from cast, the actors who appear in front of the camera or provide voices for characters in the film. Crew are also separate from producers, those who own a portion of either the film company or the film’s intellectual property rights. A film crew is divided into different sectors, each of which specializes in a specific aspect of the production. And we at Alexis Entertainment are hiring for the following aspect of production:
– Actors/ Actress.
-Director of photography.
-Production (Producer and production assistant).
-Set Director.
-Props Master.
-Models.
-Make-up Artist/Hairdresser.
-Costume designer.
-Camera Operator.
-Production sound mixer.
-Grip.
-Gaffer.
-Best boy.
If you think you have experience in the following aspect of production and You are interested in joining our team as we are hiring for a new Tv series.Pls send in your resume.

Then, when you respond to the ad, you get this response:

Hello,

Thanks for your interest in our job offer. After reviewing your last email message , we are glad to inform you we were impressed. We will be coming to your area for a 6-days shoot (June 14-20) for some scene in a TV Soap (Note that we are not to disclose the script or more details concerning the shoot until when we believe it is safe to do so, this is due to piracy). – Transportation allowance.

If you accept this offer,Send in the following information:
Full names:
Full Address(No p.o.Box):
City and state:

Phone number:
Post you are interested in:

We will send your payment for the first day and Transportation allowance to the location immediately you accept the offer. The Location will be disclosed between as soon as we finalize all necessary procedure.

Thanks for your interest,
Alicia.

When you send in the requested information, they send you an email like this:

Hello,

How are you doing today? Good News!!! I email to inform you that the Sponsor for this Job has agreed to send out payment so as to facilitate workers to be versatile and be ready for the job.Shoot starts June 14-20,2010.Time: 12n00n – 8pm.

I am putting to your notice that the payment is ready. This payment will cover your first day of work ($250) and transportation allowance ($50).
The remaining funds will be used for the necessary payment required to make the shoot a success and also costume, and rights which will be paid by the Production supervisor.

we have decided to USE THIS MEANS BECAUSE the Production supervisor travels around a lot and its hard for him to receive payment cause of his unstable location and that was why we have decided to add his fee to your payment so that you can send it to him as soon as you have your own payment (PLEASE TAKE NOTE).

Pls, We need you to CONFIRM that You are still interested in the offer by replying to this email so we can proceed by sending you payment.

Thanks.
Management.

Note: production starts on June 14th,Location will be disclosed by few days to the first day of production.
Also, the sponsor will be sending you an overpayment , which you will deduct your pay from and send to the production supervisor.Hope you understand. [Steve note: The whole conversation has been building up to this point. It’s a fake check scam.]

This email was a red flag for me so I responded and declined to send the funds to another person but said that I was interested in working on the soap opera. I never got another response. Then just the other day, I saw a post on Craigslist:

Cast and crew needed for a Movie scene

Date: 2010-06-27, 1:06PM
This is a Urgent Notice, Nielsen inc. is looking to get together a cast and crew for a soap opera. Job opening is applicable to anybody interested in the movie industry be it a model, actor ,director, or any crew involved in a movie production..
-Must be 18 yrs and above
-Job open to anybody who is interested in Hollywood.

When I responded to this ad, I got an almost identical email to the one above but from a guy named Paul Lugano.

I hope people are paying close attention to these things and not getting caught up in these types of scams which are disguised as actual jobs. People who want to work in film can hit dry spells and really need to work so they may not pay as close attention because they need the money. For the record, many tv/film productions don’t just offer up free accommodations and a transportation allowance to everyone that applies. That’s usually a perk reserved for a Producer or someone much higher up on the food chain in terms of jobs.

I hope this helps someone.

Rebate Processor Jobs Are Scams!

[See our analysis of Angela Penbrook’s rebate processing offer here.]

Steve is in the shower washing the scam off, so I get to write the full review of rebateprocessorjobs.com. Like absolute suckers, we had to spend $39 of our hard-earned dollars, signed up and prepared to make tons of money. However—surprise, surprise—it’s not what the sales page led us to believe. Here’s the short review: to say that these are “jobs” is a bald-faced lie. It’s affiliate marketing. The sales page says you’ll make $15 per rebate processed. What it doesn’t tell you is that the $15 is what’s left of your sales commission after you send a rebate—from your own money—to your buyer.

Here’s the long review:
Why you’re here
What the site leads you to believe
The truth
Inside Rebateprocessorjobs.com
Other rebate processor “jobs” sites
But Joe, don’t some people make money with affiliate marketing?
Together we can put misleading Web sites out of business

Why you’re here
You’re probably here because you’ve searched for ways to earn money online. The Google gods sent you to sites saying they would help you get a job processing rebates at home. You thought, “Hmmm…that sounds pretty good. I can do that.” But you decided to look around a little to see if the site is legit. You searched some more and that brought you to us.

You came to the right place. Unlike other sites that say “we’ve tried them all and THESE are the legitimate ones,” we are not an affiliate of rebateprocessorjobs.com. We try stuff out and give you the straight truth.

What the site leads you to believe
Rebateprocessorjobs.com targets people who are searching for online jobs or other ways to earn money from the Internet. It counts on you being a little bit desperate and it appeals to your emotions by telling you that your money problems can be over and you can have the lifestyle you’ve always wanted.

It claims that you can make a lot of money by processing rebates at home, and it leads you to believe that this processing is “a job.” Well, it kind of depends on the meaning of the word “job.” If it means “work in which you throw up advertisements all over the Web in hopes that someone will buy from your ad,” then yeah, I guess it’s a job. But Rebateprocessorjobs.com knows that you don’t think of a job that way, so it’s lying by intent. Note to Rebateprocessorjobs.com: Hey! Yeah, you, “Cindy Dalton!” Here’s what “job” means: An agreement with an employer in which you exchange your time and skill for an agreed-upon amount of money. Of course, they already know that. They’re counting on you thinking that. The sales page is expressly written to lead you to believe this.

The site leads you to believe that you’ll get a job processing rebates. You think, like I did, that such a job would involve companies telling you which customer have made a qualifying purchase, and then paying you to do the necessary typing and stuff. This is not the case. The “company” making the sale is you through your Clickbank ads. The “forms” you’ll fill out to “process” the rebates are the fields necessary to send your money to the buyer from your PayPal account.

Rebateprocessorjobs.com also claims:

  • “Make money simply by filling out online forms”
  • Enter the data into the forms that we provide you, click submit, sit back and collect the money
  • You’ll earn $15 per rebate processed
  • You can make this much money:
    2 a day @ $15 each=$210 per week or $840 month or $10,080 a year.
    6 a day @ $15 each=$630 per week or $2520 month or $30,240 a year.
    15 a day @ $15 each=$1575 per week or $6300 month or $75,600 a year.
  • Opportunities like this do not come by every day.

The truth
All of these claims have kernels of truth to them, but they are intentionally misleading.

  • “Make money simply by filling out online forms.” This is a lie. You won’t make money by filling out the forms like you would if it were a real job. You make money IF someone clicks on the ad you created by filling out the form AND THEN buys the product!
  • Enter the data into the forms that we provide you, click submit, sit back and collect the money. Again, it’s far from that simple. The forms are not “provided” for you by this site. They are part of the process of creating a Clickbank ad. And you can’t just create the ad (i.e., “click submit”) and expect to make money. You have to somehow get that ad in front of LOTS of people so that someone will click and buy. There’s no “sitting back” involved.
  • You’ll earn $15 per rebate processed. Yeah, and my grandma’s a super model. Here’s how they came up with that number. IF you sell a $37 product from Clickbank and IF the commission is $23.50, and IF you offered a rebate in your ad for $8.50, the difference of $15 is yours to keep! Woo-hoo! What about the bajillion products in Clickbank that are not $37, and for which the commission is not $23.50? Rebateprocessorjobs.com doesn’t say.
This is utter nonsense. As you know by now, you won’t make $15 for each form you fill out, so all of these numbers are purely theoretical. They are only possible IF you put your ads in front of enough people AND enough people click on your ads AND enough of those who click make a purchase AND you’ve chosen Clickbank products with a commission of $15 or more.
  • Opportunities like this do not come by every day. Yes they do. Hundreds of them, day after day after day.

Once you’ve paid your money (which is nonrefundable), you learn the full story. Here’s how it all goes down:

  1. You sign up at Clickbank, an online clearing house of thousands of products
  2. You choose products you want to sell
  3. You create ads for those products
  4. You plaster those ads all over the ‘Net (this step could cost you money)
  5. You somehow get people to see your ads. (the site doesn’t tell you this, nor how to do it)
  6. You somehow get them to click on your ads, not the dozens hundreds thousands of other ads from your competitors (the site doesn’t tell you how to do this)
  7. You only earn a commission IF someone buys the product you’re selling after clicking on the ad you created. Read that again!
  8. You send part of your commission back to the buyer

Wait…where’s the rebate? Where’s the processing? You see the last step? That’s the rebate. The “processing” is when you look at the email addresses of your buyers and manually send them money through PayPal. Not quite the “job” you were expecting, is it?

Inside Rebateprocessorjobs.com
When you pay your $37, you get instant access to the member’s area of Virtual Training Solutions. The first page you’ll see in the “members area” is a list of other money making scamsopportunities. The generous folks at Virtual Training Solutions (which is the “members area” of rebateprocessorjobs.com) give you access to all of these for no additional charge! The links below are to I’ve Tried That reviews on each topic:

If you click on the links in the members area, you’ll be taken down an endless road of the site’s affiliate links: things they are trying to sell you so they can earn the commission.

Continue to the Rebate Processing section and you’ll get full instructions on the steps I numbered for you above. The steps they outline are true, and the instructions are reasonable, but by now, a buyer will have realized that this is not a job like they were promised. There’s no way in hell you’re going to sign up for this bullshit “opportunity” and start pulling in money right away.

Other rebate processor “jobs” sites
Seen one, seen ’em all. Folks, they’re all the same. I don’t care what the url is or what the sales page says. If they promise you big money processing rebates, they’re selling you the same stinky cheese. EZrebateprocessing uses identical images to show you how the program works, so I know the program is the sam. But it charges $197!! If you must throw your money away, I suggest flushing $37 rather than $197. Or better yet, send it to me via PayPal at joe[at]ivetriedthat[dot]com. I’ll at least say, “Thank you” and will still be here in the morning!
