11 Common Work at Home Scams (And How To Spot Them)

Anyone who has tried to find a job online has no doubt come across hundreds of work-at-home scams.

Does this crap look familiar?

Typical work at home scam

You’ve probably seen similar headlines at some point in your search for work-from-home jobs.

Easy money, little pay, no experience, millions of dollars.

Sure, it sounds great. But it’s actually just an attempt to rob you of your cash.

Today, we explore work-at-home scams that are just waiting to trap you and we’ll give you some tips on how to spot a scam so you can avoid them.

How Do Work at Home Scam Artists Operate?

Here’s how the typical scam works.

Scammers either post a work-at-home job opportunity or cold contact people through emails or phone calls from illegally obtained contact lists to offer these job opportunities.

When you look at these job posts, they may seem like any other ordinary job post.

But when you answer these ads, take their cold call, or click a link in their unsolicited email, they’ll try to trick you into paying for something that’s free, making regular payments without getting anything in return, handing over your financial and personal details so they can drain your bank accounts and rack up charges on your credit card, or clicking a link that leads to a malicious site that steals your information for them to use or sell.

However they do it, the ultimate goal is to steal as much money from you as they possibly can.

How To Spot Work At Home Scams

Victims of scams should never be blamed for being scammed.

But we can avoid being victims ourselves by being more vigilant and scrutinizing opportunities instead of taking them at face value.

Here are some things to watch out for when you’re considering a work at home opportunity.

The job offer seems too good to be true.

Sometimes, your gut instinct will be enough to set off alarm bells.

If it feels like a scam, it probably is.

For instance, you may see ads for jobs that pay hundreds or thousands of dollars a month to do very little work, such as placing flyers inside envelopes.

No legitimate company will do that. It just doesn’t happen.

You have to pay to work.

Some legitimate job boards do charge membership fees for you to start applying to companies that have listings with them.

What I’m referring to is different, though.

When a company you’d be working for directly needs you to pay some amount upfront by giving them your credit card information before you can start working, that’s not a good sign.

Employers are supposed to pay you, not the other way around.

There’s little information about the company or it doesn’t seem to exist.

Legitimate companies nowadays have an online presence. Even small businesses know that you have to have at least a website to harness online marketing.

So if you do a simple Google search for the company who posted the job or who contacted you, and you can’t find a website or a social media page, that is a huge red flag.

If you do find a website, but it has very little information on what they do, who the employees are, or even where their headquarters are, it’s a pretty good sign that they’re running a work-at-home scam.

Negative reviews exist on the internet.

Other people who have experienced work at home scams from a company will probably post their experiences on the internet to warn others.

When you research the company, you’ll probably find these negative reviews. Read through them carefully to know if applying or taking the job is a waste of time.

The contact information doesn’t feel right.

You can actually look up the number you’re given to call or where you receive phone calls from on online services such as ShouldIAnswer and check whether they’re listed to the company.

If they say they’re based in California but you see that the number they’re calling from is a mobile number or it’s not a California phone number, that’s a big sign that they’re scamming you.

Similarly, if you receive emails from generic email addresses that end in gmail[dot]com, hotmail[dot]com, yahoo[dot]com, or aol[dot]com, it’s a likely scam.

Their communication skills are poor.

Emails from legitimate companies are generally well-composed, with a professional tone, very few (if any) typos, proper grammar, and correct punctuation.

If you receive emails that have plenty of misspelled words, weird grammar, punctuation not properly placed (for instance, spaces before periods and commas, semi-colons where they’re not supposed to be, etc.), it’s quite possible this is a scam.

11 Most Common Work at Home Scams Today

1. MLMs That Are Actually Pyramid Schemes

Multi-level marketing (MLM) businesses aren’t all scams.

Companies like Amway, Avon, and Herbalife are all legitimate MLM businesses.

However, MLM businesses that become pyramid schemes are one of the oldest work from home scams you can find online.

If the MLM company earns mostly from sold products or services, it can be a legit MLM company.

This doesn’t matter if the products being sold seem useless, are questionably priced, or if the company engages in deceptive sales practices.

MLM companies become a pyramid scam if the revenue stream comes from membership fees of new members/sellers.

Even legitimate MLM companies will give you a bonus when you recruit new members. However, if it seems like the company’s earnings are only coming from recruiting other people, you’re in trouble.

Pyramid schemes are those that push you to recruit more people into the company instead of emphasizing the benefits of their products and training you on how to sell them.

2. Link Posting Jobs

Link posting isn’t a real job, but scammers would like job seekers to believe that it is.

Link posting used to be part of a comprehensive internet marketing plan.

In the world of SEO and IM, backlinking used to help bring one website higher in the search engine results.

In theory, when multiple links of the same URL are posted across a wide range of sites, Google and other search engines would deem that website most relevant to a particular search term.

Another way scammers define link posting is as a tool for affiliate marketing.

With affiliate marketing, you post links to products in hopes of getting a commission whenever a buyer clicks on that link.

It’s a totally legitimate business model and the commissions are real.

However, the way link posting “companies” guarantee payment (when it is impossible to do so), or compute compensation (when you have no control of what links other people would click or not click) are bogus.

Worse, link posting “companies” charge unsuspecting job seekers for “training,” which almost always turns out to be outdated training in affiliate marketing or link building.

Some companies are relentless, though; once they get your email and phone number, they’ll spam you, hoping to get you to pay even more for higher-level training and squeezing even more money from you.

3. Fake Job Agencies

This one can have so many variations, such as agencies for government, military, or nursing jobs.

What they all have in common is that you’ll get contacted by an “agency” or a “recruiter” telling you you’re eligible for a job.

The “agency” then asks you to pay a fee supposedly for admin fees, registration fees, or a guarantee to actually land a position.

Moreover, they’ll ask you to fill out an agency form with all details a reputable agency might ask for, including your financial and personal information, even your social security number. They’ll also ask for a copy of your ID and qualifications.

Once they have that information, they can empty out your bank account, apply for loans and credit cards in your name, and sell your information when they’re done with you.

While looking for work from home jobs seem overwhelming (the web is a massive place), know that you can apply for an online job, get interviewed and hired without paying a cent.

Also, make sure you’re talking to a job agency or recruiter that is legitimate. When in doubt, ask to meet them in person.

Lastly, never respond to unsolicited calls or emails from a job agency you never applied to.

4. Check Cashing Scams

No legitimate company will ever ask you to accept payments on their behalf. End of story.

I bet you received a version of the Nigerian check-cashing scheme via e-mail in the last 10 years.

Or maybe you’ve heard of or received an offer for what turned out to be a car wrap scam.

If so, check-cashing jobs would be very familiar to you.

“Check-cashing scam” is a wide-ranging label and has a ton of variations, but they work the same way. In its oldest form, the scammer pays the victim a bad check.

This is how work from home scams through check-cashing actually work:

  • Jobseekers are sent the checks that will be used to pay for a product or service.
  • Victims are instructed to deposit the check into their own banks, keep a portion of the “money” and send back the change via wire transfer to the scammers. The check will bounce after it has been deposited because it’s fake.
  • Victims not only lose the money that they sent via wire transfer but also have to repay the bank once the check bounces.

Be very afraid of this scam.

It can actually land you in jail.

5. Package Forwarding or Reshipping Job Scams

Here’s another work from home scam that may actually make the job seekers who fall for them become convicted felons.

It has many names: package forwarding, reshipping, package processing, and postal forwarding. The scam is presented as a job offer and is usually done around the Christmas season as there are plenty of packages being sent during this time.

Those willing to do the “job” receive packages, which they will repackage and then send to another location (usually a foreign country).

Okay, doesn’t sound too bad, does it?

Wrong.

  • Victims pay shipping charges out of their own pockets.
  • Scammers pay victims with a fake check with a huge amount as reimbursement for the shipping fee and compensation for a job well done.
  • Once the paycheck bounces, they must repay the bank (or face fraud charges).
  • On top of it all, the products have been bought and paid for using stolen credit cards.

Basically, you’ve accepted goods purchased with a stolen credit card and identity, and then you shipped them overseas to an anonymous scammer.

Victims of these work from home scams can be criminally liable, especially if they forwarded packages abroad and lied on U.S. Customs Service forms.

6. Social Media Job Scams

The premise of social media job scams is simple:

Anyone with a phone who could spend x amount of time posting, liking, or commenting on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or any other social media platform can make $300, $500, $900 per day online.

Here’s the catch: you have to sign up for a scam company’s “system” or “program” that comes with a monthly fee to be able to start earning.

7. Handicraft Work Scams

Handicraft work scams have been around for years but continue to victimize people from around the world. Here’s how it works:

  • Scammers advertise their need for workers to create crafts, assemble items, and produce other materials by hand.
  • Scammers promise to pay per piece, as long as the final product is of quality made from top-notch sewing machines or other equipment.
  • The catch: “workers” have to buy equipment and materials from the scammers. In most cases, the scammers close up shop after you’ve bought the materials and equipment, never to be heard from again.
  • In other similar schemes, the scammers continue to fool the victims by letting them work on the orders only to reject them for “low quality.”

8. Self-Publishing Scams

The self-publishing industry blew up when Amazon encouraged everyone to write and sell a book on its platform.

Now, the self-publishing industry isn’t exclusive to Amazon. There are plenty of self-publishing services and indie publishing houses to choose from.

However, you might stumble upon fake “indie publishing houses” that target aspiring authors hoping to get published.

These scammers may charge unnecessary fees. For instance, they might charge reading fees, which aren’t charged by legitimate publishers.

Scam publishing houses may also hide their scams in the fine print in your contract.

For instance, require authors to sell a certain number of books within a certain time period, or else authors are then required to pay back the book production costs. This is not standard practice for publishing houses.

Or they may bury a statement or a clause in your contract that you sign away your rights to your own book.

Know that there are legitimate publishing houses that can help independent authors, and you should always do your research before signing up with a publishing house.

Check out AbsoluteWrite and find if a self-publishing company you’re looking at is a respectable company.

Or go through this list of legitimate self-publishing companies first.

9. Data Entry Scams (and other Jobs with Easy Tasks for Huge Gains)

Data entry job scams are so appealing to job seekers because it involves very simple tasks in exchange for big paychecks.

The fact is: data entry is real, but the job doesn’t pay even half as much as what these scammers promise.

In some cases, scammers sell their victims a one-of-a-kind data entry software for thousands of dollars.

Job seekers who desperately want to work from home eventually take the bait, and find out there are no jobs after all.

Data entry job scams work very similarly to other work from home scams like mystery shopping, medical billing, e-mail forwarding, and so on.

The common element of these scams is the selling of a dream lifestyle. Most claim you can do the job anywhere (even on the beach) and earn either thousands of dollars or a passive income while doing so.

The saying, “if it’s too good to be true, then it probably is” holds true with these types of work-from-home scams.

10. Investment scams

Everyone knows there is money to be made online, but dealing with scrupulous people or groups will definitely shatter your dreams. Below are a few samples of work from home scams that involve some sort of investment:

Ecommerce

Investors are duped into paying for a package that includes a website, hosting/domain, and maintenance for manning the online store.

The promise is a fully functional website with investors taking home a percentage of the transaction after every sale.

Unfortunately, no sales ever happen and the scammer never really did intend to maintain your ecommerce business.

Cryptocurrency

There have been plenty of cryptocurrency scams cropping up because the terminologies used are not for the ordinary person.

You’d have to be well-versed not only in finance but also in technology just so you can understand what cryptocurrency is all about.

While there are legitimate cryptocurrencies around, the scams are bigger in numbers. I’ve talked about this more comprehensively here if you’re interested in investing your hard-earned money in cryptocurrency.

11. Envelope Stuffing Scams

This work-at-home scam has been around for years, yet people still fall or it.

Scammers post ads for workers who are interested in stuffing envelopes and earning a living from it.

People who respond to the ad are asked to pay a small fee (around $15 to $40) for a start-up kit or simply as a processing fee or a “good faith” fee. You’ll also be asked to send in a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Once you send the payment, you’ll receive a starter kit that simply contains even more flyers for you to stuff into envelopes in. Chances are it’s the same flyer that alerted you to this job.

The starter kit often doesn’t even contain envelopes, in which case you’ll have to spring for the envelopes yourself.

Even if there’s a money-back guarantee offered, you’d have to fill an absurd number of envelopes before they even consider giving you your money back.

Don’t Fall For Work at Home Scams!

Things You Need to Do to Land an Online SAT Tutoring Job

Preparing for the SATs can be quite stressful for high school students, and having an SAT tutor can reduce that stress, for both the students and their parents. This is why online SAT tutoring jobs are currently in demand.

Building a career usually starts with one’s college course, and one’s SAT scores are one of the important factors by which a student’s application to college is assessed.

This is why students feel pressured to perform well on their SATs to get into their first choice of college or university.

In today’s article, we look at why students need SAT tutors, how you can become an online SAT tutor, what skills you need, how much you can make, and where to find online SAT tutoring jobs.

Why Do Students Need SAT Tutors?

The SAT, originally called the Scholastic Aptitude Test, is a standardized test created by the College Board in 1926. It is intended to assess students’ readiness for college by measuring a student’s skills in 3 core areas: Critical Reading, Writing, and Math.

There used to be an optional essay section, but it’s been discontinued after June 2021.

Most colleges and universities in the US use it for college admissions, although some schools have already dropped this requirement.

However, prestigious universities, including Ivy League schools, still use standardized tests to decide on admission as well as on awarding scholarships and student aid.

This is why parents are willing to spend for their children to be completely prepared to take the SATs, including paying thousands of dollars for a private SAT tutor.

If you’re an educator or want to become an educator working from home, online SAT tutoring jobs are one of the most lucrative and challenging opportunities for teachers today.

How to Become an Online SAT Tutor

1. Familiarize yourself with the SAT.

You’ve probably taken the SAT before, but let’s face it, it may have been a while.

Before you can be an SAT tutor, you need to know what you’re dealing with.

Take as many recent SAT practice tests as you can at the College Board website.

It’s best to limit your time as well and have the same materials on hand as test takers have, which is usually two No. 2 pencils and an approved calculator.

2. Get your SAT teaching materials together.

There are plenty of free resources on the internet about SAT teaching strategies. Read as many articles and guides as you can to help you create your own teaching strategy.

Also, get your hands on as many SAT test prep materials and books as you can. These have practice tests that will help your students greatly. There are also study tips in there that you can share with your students to help them in between tutorial sessions.

At this point, you also need to set up your home office with your computer, high-speed internet, high-quality webcam, headset, and microphone.

3. Learn about specific strategies to raise scores.

Your students (and their parents) would expect to learn tricks to increase their SAT scores. Although there aren’t any simple tricks to do this, what you can offer is to teach them how to approach each part of the exam.

For instance, you can teach them how to read SAT passages such that they can answer the next questions without re-reading the passage (remember, time is gold in the SAT). Students that can read a passage once and recognize the main idea and supporting sentences immediately have an edge.

Another useful strategy is to have students learn the most important formulas that will be useful in the Math section. They’ll be given basic formulas, but knowing more than the basics will save them a lot of time.

4. Know how to analyze mistakes.

When they’re answering practice tests, chances are they’ll make a few mistakes.

Don’t stop at giving them the correct answer. Help them understand how they came to the wrong answer so they’ll know not to repeat that mistake.

3 Unique Skills to Land any Online SAT Tutoring Job You Want

Many parents prefer one-on-one, face-to-face tutors to be able to meet in person and gauge the progress of their kids.

But there are instances where parents would go for online tutors.

For example, not all cities have tutors specializing in improving SAT scores and the next best thing is to find a tutor who could work with their kids remotely.

Even if you’ve been tutoring kids in math, English, or any other subject for years, this doesn’t automatically mean you’re going to be a good SAT tutor.

Here are 3 things you should have to knock down the competition for online SAT tutoring jobs.

1. SAT Specialization

Most parents just hire tutors for their kids as a general preparation for college admissions.

However, this shouldn’t be the case. Some students are quite good at math but not so much at writing essays, or vice versa.

A good SAT tutor must able to:

  • Assess a student’s strengths and weak areas. Tutors will focus on all sections of the SAT, but understanding a student’s strengths and weaknesses before creating a study plan can save both of them time and effort.
  • Help a student define their goals. For example: Get into a particular school, reach a specific SAT score, and so on. In the same vein, tutors should also guide students in setting “reasonable” expectations. Aiming for a perfect SAT score is well and good, but not everyone can do it.
  • Explain answers to students. Sometimes, the approach or computation can be confusing. Learning how to arrive at the answers, especially in math problems, can be beneficial to a student. Most students already understand concepts of biology, chemistry, statistics, and so on, but once applied to a real-world question, all the stored knowledge disappears.
  • Teach students how to answer an SAT exam. The SAT is a marathon – it takes over 3 hours to answer hundreds of questions. Sometimes, students simply fail at managing their time or prioritizing one section over another section.
  • Adjust your study plan according to student progress. An efficient SAT tutor should determine when a student is improving in a particular area and move on to another.
  • Motivate students to practice and study. You may be the best online SAT tutor in the country, but if your student doesn’t do the work, their scores won’t improve. A big part of being an SAT tutor is to be able to inspire and encourage your student.

2. Good Reputation

For tutors who are members of an online tutoring company, the website often maintains testimonials of past students under their profiles.

These reviews would give parents enough information to determine if a tutor is a good fit or not.

If you’re going to be offering online SAT tutoring by yourself, you’d have to prove your worth.

Know that many parents and students aren’t as impressed by “Ivy League tutors” as they did in the past, so the go-to step is to dig deeper into the tutor’s reputation and hopefully find testimonials from real, former students.

Unfortunately, since you’re a freelance tutor, you’d have to be the one requesting reviews and showcasing them on your Facebook page, LinkedIn account, or tutor-for-hire website.

3. A Record to Back it Up

Most online tutoring jobs require tutors to have a bachelor’s degree and teaching license.

A graduate degree is optional, but experience in SAT tutoring is a requirement. In some cases, you can be hired by a review center simply if you came from Ivy League schools.

SAT tutor certification does not exist, not even from Khan Academy (the official “school” College Board assigned to give free SAT test preparation).

Aside from the testimonials of former students, you’d likely have more success if you’re up-to-date with how well they actually did during the real SATs.

If possible, ask your past clients if it’s okay to publish their SAT scores.

If your student or their parents do not like their names published, write them as case studies: list the problem (student weakness), list the steps taken to solve the problem (what techniques did you use as a tutor to help improve the student’s weak areas), and share the conclusion (how much improvement the student made, or what scores they actually got).

How Much Do Online SAT Tutoring Jobs Pay?

Online SAT tutors make an average of $40 to $100 per hour.

The amount tutors can make on an hourly basis depends on whether the tutor is working alone or as a contractor with a known tutor company, the reputation of the tutor, and subject specialization.

Some tutors who specialize in helping students get into Princeton, Harvard, or other specific schools are often sought out by rich parents, and they can charge higher fees (from $200 up to $1000 per hour).

Where Do You Find SAT Tutor Jobs?

You’d be surprised at how many websites are looking for competent SAT tutors.

Those looking for the best online tutoring jobs with a focus on SAT test prep, check out the available positions from these sites:

  • Tutors.com – One of the oldest SAT tutoring job sites from this list, you’ll also find other tutor jobs aside from SAT preps.
  • Princeton Review.com – Focused on college admission, including SAT tutoring.
  • PrepScholar.com – Known for having some of the youngest online SAT tutors around, which means they’re likely relatable to students.
  • Chegg.com – It’s been around since 2003. Pays tutors about $20/hour via PayPal, which is low for experienced tutors, but will probably be good enough for those just starting out.
  • StudyPool.com – You have input about how much you’d like to charge, but StudyPool takes a 20-30% cut.
  • iTutor.com – A learning platform that works with school districts and college access programs to make virtual learning accessible.
  • Varsity Tutors – Offers test prep as well as academic tutoring.

Outdoor Jobs: 40+ Careers in the Great Outdoors

Not everyone can thrive in a four-walled, fluorescent-lighted environment for 9, 10, 12 hours a day. For those people, outdoor jobs seem like a better fit than traditional office jobs.

Working outdoors gives you literally more space to explore. The sun on your face (outside the danger hours, that is), the fresh air in your lungs, and being able to move around all have positive effects on your health.

Some people have a bias against outdoor jobs; for some reason, they think they’re nothing but menial and low-paying jobs.

Actually, many of these jobs require degrees and specialized skills, and thus pay higher than expected.

If you feel like you’d be happier exploring jungles, guiding tourists on off-the-beaten paths, hiking to the peak of the mountains, taking pictures of Mother Nature, diving deep to rescue sea creatures, skiing to your heart’s content, or making your life into an adventure, all while earning money, then this list can change your life.

Types of Outdoor Jobs

You’d find two types of outdoor jobs – one that requires a degree, and the other that is skills-based.

When I list the jobs below, I’ll note down if they’re available year-round or seasonal, requirements needed for the job, and income potential.

Wilderness Outdoor Jobs

The wilderness is any area uncultivated and uninhabited by human beings.

1. Wildland Firefighters

  • Year-round and seasonal job
  • Income: $52,500/year
  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent; physical training, fire science training, medical training, certification

These brave men and women are front and center when forest and wildland fires occur. It’s a dangerous yet noble job.

They’re also involved in wildlife fire prevention and may be tapped by the US Forest Service or the US Fish & Wildlife Service for projects related to natural resources.

2. Wilderness or Backpacking Guide

  • Year-round and seasonal
  • Income: $30,000/year
  • Experience and skill-based

This job isn’t for the faint of heart.

Adventure seekers want to go to the wilderness for thrills, but not all of them know how to survive in the wild. They hire wilderness guides to help them through their adventure.

Because you’re leading people in uncharted lands, you have to be aware of the terrain, habitat, and everything else about the area you’re backpacking in. Perfect for people with extensive experience in hiking, hunting, fishing, and basically living off the land. They should also master outdoor survival skills.

3. Park Ranger

  • Year-round
  • Income: $40,000/year
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree, forestry, conservation, environmental science preferred; physical training, medical training; communication skills

Park rangers patrol state and national parks to ensure that visitors are following the rules and not disrupting the natural environment for both flora and fauna.

They also conduct tours and educational presentations with a special focus on making visitors understand the importance of conservation. Park rangers are also trained to reporting and caring for wounded and hurt humans and animals.

4. Forester

  • Year-round
  • Income: $70,000/year
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in forestry

Foresters manage the growth of trees (and the type of tree species to be planted) in relation to the survival of plant and animal species within a particular forest.

Timber foresters look after privately owned farms and forests owned by timber companies to make sure the harvesting of timber does not harm the ecosystem. Conservation foresters assess the impact of human activity on animals and plants and recommend declaring a forest as protected when needed.

5. Conservation Scientist

  • Year-round
  • Income: $64,000/year
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in forestry, environmental planning, natural resource conservation, or other related fields

A conservation scientist manages the overall land quality of natural resources such as forests and parks.

They work with local, state, and federal governments, as well as private landowners to devise ways to maximize the use of the land while protecting the environment.

Science-Related Outdoor Jobs

Many scientists work in the field since they study and explore water, land, air, and living things around the country and sometimes around the world.

Most of these careers in the science industry are high-paying outdoor jobs, especially those that require doctorate degrees.

6. Archaeologist

  • Year-round
  • Income: $66,000/year
  • Requires a graduate degree in archaeology or anthropology; internship or volunteer fieldwork

Many kids dream of becoming an archaeologist; all that digging around and finding ancient treasures sound pretty cool to a kid.

Archaeologists plan and execute excavations, retrieve and analyze artifacts, and publish and present their results in academic journals and academic conferences.

7. Animal Trainer

  • Year-round and seasonal
  • Income: $30,000 to $75,000/year
  • Requires bachelor’s degree, preferably in an animal-related field such as animal behavior, zoology, veterinary technology, and the like; requires genuine love for animals; medical training

Animal trainers that work with huge animals usually work outdoors and paid more than animal trainers that work with smaller animals.

If you’re wondering about the wide salary range, it’s because your payment depends on the animal you’re hired to train, your experience, and the conditions you’ll be training in.

For instance, training horses in a ranch pays less than training elephants in a zoo or a circus.

8. Botanist

  • Year-round
  • Income: $69,000/year
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree, preferably in botany, but can be in plant science, biology, or another closely related field; requires advanced research skills

Botanists study plant life—processes, reproduction, and evolution—and how it relates to their surroundings and other organisms. The ultimate goal of their research is to help with medicine, environmental policy, conservation, and agriculture.

9. Geoscientist

  • Year-round
  • Income: $93,000/year
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in geology or other geoscience-related fields; requires a license to be a Professional Geoscientist

Geoscientists study the earth’s composition, structure, and other physical attributes, such as minerals and rocks. They do his mostly by collecting and analyzing samples, preparing scientific reports, and presenting their findings to clients, the academe, and other interested parties.

10. Entomologist

  • Year-round
  • Income: $61,000/year
  • Requires a doctoral degree in entomology

Anyone who ever loved creepy crawlies as a child could grow up to become an entomologist and study insects’ behavior, life cycle, ecology, population, and taxonomy. Industries that hire entomologists include agriculture, veterinary, medicine, law enforcement, and many other industries.

11. Marine Biologist

  • Year-round
  • Income: $62,000/year
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in marine biology; extensive undersea training and diving experience

Probably every kid who saw Finding Nemo was enthralled by the underwater environment portrayed in the movie.

Marine biologists get up close and personal with marine organisms right in their habitat. Their research work involves species inventories, monitoring their movement, collecting and testing of water samples, and preserving specimens and samples of new species.

12. Environmental Scientist

  • Year-round and seasonal
  • Income: voluntary to $73,000/year
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in environmental science; requires training for handling hazardous materials in the environment.

Environmental scientists collect and analyze samples of environmental materials and determine contamination due to human activities and industry. The information gathered is then used toward preventing, controlling, and fixing environmental problems so that natural resources and habitats are preserved.

13. Zoologist

  • Year-round and seasonal
  • Income: $66,000/year
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in zoology or other related fields, such as wildlife biology or ecology

Zoologists observe animals in their natural surroundings, including their characteristics, diseases, reproduction, movement, and interactions with other animals and their environment. The goal is usually to conserve wildlife.

14. Volcanologist

Get Paid to Write: 150+ Freelance Writing Jobs You Can Do from Home

If your dream is to get paid to write, you’re in luck.

This dream is easier to turn into reality these days because every type of online writing job you can do from home is available with a quick Google search.

This wasn’t the case several years ago. In the early ’00s, it was common for online jobs to turn out into scams and freelancers had to learn to protect themselves the hard way.

Today, job boards, marketplaces, and other platforms operate with a fee or use feedback systems to keep scammers at bay and encourage people that online jobs can really become a legitimate way to earn a stable income from the comforts of your own home.

So why doesn’t everyone with decent writing skills just quit their day jobs and focus on providing writing services online?

The Perfect Online Writing Job from Home

The problem isn’t the lack of writing opportunities available, but finding the perfect ones for your skills, circumstances, and expected pay.

In some cases, the job is only available if you’re based in the U.S., Canada, or other countries that have English as a first language. In other cases, the fees paid are so low that only those from developing countries can survive from their earnings.

If you want to make it as a freelance writer, here are several things you should think about before checking out what writing jobs are in store for you:

  • Tone of writing — Whether you’ve got experience writing legal letters and corporate memos, or prefer the conversational tone of blogs, social media, and other much modern platforms, deciding the tone early on will allow you to filter the writing jobs you’re interested in.
  • Fiction vs. Non-fiction — You don’t have to worry about choosing which has better opportunities, since there are plenty of fiction and non-fiction writing jobs available. But since news writing, academic writing, web copy, resume writing, and others that require technical writing are totally different from blogging, writing short stories or poetry, and so on, knowing where your writing skills fit perfectly would increase your productivity and income in the long run.
  • Side cash vs. Full-time job — Will you be able to commit to working on a full-time basis? Or are you planning to write for cash on the side? This is an important consideration, especially since it correlates with the amount of income you’ll be taking home each month.
  • The Boss — Freelancers still work for other people, whether this means you’re taking in a client directly, or working for a content mill, marketing firm, or any other company. Freelance writers who work for companies are usually teamed with other writers and editors, as well as content managers to help with work calendars.

Other factors, such as payment currency and software requirements, may also affect your decision on a case-to-case basis. But these four factors could help trim down your results when searching for freelance writing jobs.

150+ Ways You Can Get Paid to Write

I did my best to categorize this list as organized as possible with payment information and other important info. Have fun hunting your preferred freelance writing jobs from home!

Learn basic SEO skills.

Companies nowadays need more content that will drive customers to their sites. As a freelance writer, you need to have at least a basic knowledge of SEO to be able to write articles that will likely be indexed by search engines and served up on search engine result pages.

Know how to handle feedback and rejection.

Your clients and your bosses will inevitably give you feedback on your work. Good or bad, you need to be able to deal with feedback graciously.

Other times, your articles will be rejected outright. You’ll either be told that your article wasn’t up to par or just not hear back at all.

It’s hard not to take all that negativity personally, but successful freelance writers are able to take this in stride and use that feedback to improve their writing skills.

How to Get Paid to Be an Online Mock Juror

Jury duty is one of those onerous responsibilities a US citizen has to do at some point in their lives. However, if you’re one of those who actually like being part of the US legal system, being an online mock juror might interest you.

Instead of watching legal shows and spouting your theories and thoughts to the television, you can participate in mock trials with real lawyers and get paid for your thoughts and your time.

In this article, you’ll learn what mock trials are, what an online mock juror does, and where to sign up.

What Are Mock Trials?

Mock trials present made-up cases to mock juries.

These are either done by lawyers preparing for an actual case or by would-be lawyers preparing for court experience.

Mock trials are hosted by companies resembling survey panels that hire mock jurors. The jurors provide feedback to the company and the companies give feedback to the lawyers for them to know how a real jury would react to their case strategy.

This allows both practicing lawyers and would-be lawyers to make better decisions about trying cases and settling legal disputes.

What Does an Online Mock Juror Do?

Mock jurors are hired by companies or lawyers to go through all the court processes, from selection to swearing-in, listening to arguments, looking at the evidence, discussing, and coming up with a verdict.

As I’ve mentioned, mock trials were done in actual physical venues, such as law schools or law firms, and sometimes even in a real courtroom.

Nowadays, there are paid online juror jobs you can apply for so you can be a mock juror from home.

Once you’ve been picked as an online juror, case documents of the mock trial would be sent to you. You’ll then be able to listen or read arguments from both sides, watch, listen, and read exhibits, decide on the case, answer a questionnaire, and get paid.

Requirements may vary per site, but here are some of the general requirements that potential online jurors must meet so your application can be considered.

  • Must 18 years of age or older
  • Must be a US citizen
  • Must be a registered voter
  • Must be literate (i.e., able to read and write)
  • Must not be a lawyer, legal assistant, paralegal, or otherwise employed in a law firm
  • Must have no indictment, felony, or misdemeanor charge
  • Must be of good moral character and sound mind

Aside from the must-haves to be a mock juror, there are also must-not-haves that companies and attorneys who use these services prefer.

  • Must not be an actively practicing attorney, paralegal, or legal assistant
  • Must not be currently employed by or associated with a law firm or an attorney
  • Must not be related to a practicing attorney by marriage or by blood

Where to Find Paid Online Mock Juror Jobs

You can see from its website that eJury is one of the oldest of its kind. It pays jurors $5 to $10 per case, depending on the length of each case. The average length is around 6 pages, which can be finished in as little as 30 minutes. Payment is made via PayPal.

2. Online Verdict

The process of jury selection is a little different with Online Verdict. Here, jurors are selected depending on the county or federal district they are in. So if the attorneys in your area don’t upload cases on the database, you won’t have a chance to sit on the virtual jury.

Sometimes, Online Verdict hosts national surveys for everyone registered. Anyone qualified for a particular case will be notified via e-mail.

You can earn anywhere from $20 to $60 per case, depending on the length and difficulty level. Payment is sent once a month via check mailed to your address.

Payments range from $5 to $50 per case, depending on the complexity of the cases. They are released via check or PayPal.

Dubbed as a legal focus group, virtual jurors are notified via email if a case is available in their respective areas. The registration form on Virtual Jury is in-depth, requiring would-be jurors to indicate job status, political affiliation, and age, among others. Pay varies from case to case. You’ll receive a check within two weeks, after the end of the focus group.

9. Jury Sign Up

The duration of the sessions and payment varies by project, but sessions last around 6 to 8 hours and you will typically be paid at least $100 for your time.

10. First Court

First Court conducts full trials all over the country, hiring locals of the county they’re working in to become mock jurors.

They also host self-paced online trials lasting around 1 to 3 hours where online mock jurors evaluate the facts of a lawsuit from home and give feedback on video. They get paid around $50 to $125.

Future-Proof with these 12 Best Jobs for the Future

Do you consider your career one of the best jobs for the future?

For some people, technological advancements could mean their jobs would be deemed obsolete.

Remember Britain’s knocker-uppers whose sole jobs were to wake people up with long wooden sticks “knocking” by the windows? Well, those jobs disappeared when everyone switched to alarm clocks instead of paying for this service.

Jobs like video store clerks, milkmen, switchboard operators, or movie projectionists have disappeared almost completely by now, while other jobs like file clerk and cashiers (have you seen those cashier-less Amazon stores?) are slowly being made obsolete due to advancements in technology.

Does the thought of being replaced by a machine, AI robot, or automation seem possible with your line of work? Or are you in high school thinking about the course to take or your would-be profession?

If so, this list of 12 in-demand jobs should give you an idea of what kinds of jobs to pursue (and which to avoid) and how to future-proof yourself in ANY industry.

12 Best Jobs for the Future

The following jobs for the future will cement you in the right direction financially, but they’re not the only ones. You can find your own niche within these careers. For example,

1. Video game designer, developer

Video games are a billion-dollar industry with annual revenue of $37 billion (in 2020), so it just makes sense to invest in video game development skills if you’re interested in gaming.

2. Mobile app and mobile game developer

Just like video games, the demand for mobile apps has no sign of stopping.

This is especially true for the mobile gaming market, which is responsible for over $77 billion in revenue in 2020 alone.

3. Chef, cook, bakers, and other jobs involving the creation of food

Robots cannot replace the creativity, patience, and skills chefs, bakers, and cooks have when it comes to preparing scrumptious food.

Even now, factory-manufactured food doesn’t come as close as handmade/homemade, warm food served fresh.

4. Data scientist

Data is used in everything these days.

From your favorite social media to your go-to shopping app, data is shared and stored every second. A data scientist analyzes any data, finds patterns,  and figures out a way to use all findings to improve the platform, increase customers, and improve services/products based on data trends.

Just like other professions here, there are several sub-niches of data scientists you could branch out that are also as in-demand as data scientist jobs.

5. HR (Human Resources)

The job of HR personnel is becoming easier thanks to automated candidate screening, but real people perform the interviews and assessment of communication skills or emotional intelligence of applicants.

Because robots cannot read people (beyond heart rate and probably body temperature), they won’t be able to assess things like sincerity, emotions, and so on.

6. Fashion Designers

Like chefs, robots lack the creativity and passion to create pieces of clothing, jewelry, shoes, accessories, costumes, and other similar products.

Although it is possible for a robot to analyze data based on the kinds of clothes, shoes, jewelry, or accessories a specific market audience tends to buy, style isn’t something a computer can calculate.

7. Engineers

Out of all the jobs that might get outdated with technological advancements, engineering seems the most brutal.

Imagine building robots to perform a specific task, only for the same robot to be replacing you in the future. Fortunately, even if there are dozens of movies showing us this possibility, engineers will have careers for a long time.

Whether you’re taking up an engineering discipline that’s obviously going to be part of the future (such as robotics, or mechanical engineering), or sticking with a profession that has very little chance of being outdated (like architecture), you can breathe a sigh of relief.

The innovation many engineers bring into this world is unmatched and would take decades more for AI to get to an engineer’s level.

8. Social Media Marketer/Strategist

Traditional advertising may still work, but reaching a brand’s target market is quicker, more accurate, and less expensive on social media. This is why many companies are online directly interacting with their customers and would-be clients.

AI and automation can make a huge difference in marketing processes, but they can’t replace humans in analyzing data, trends, people’s reactions/aggrievances/feedback, and so on.

If you are involved in digital marketing, you have to be up-to-date with exciting trends to help your job. Rankbrain (the AI/machine learning tech behind Google’s search engine), or Klevu (to help eCommerce stores track, monitor, and upsell to customers and visitors) are just two examples of tech that could put you at the top of your digital marketing game.

9. Doctors, nurses, scientists, and other professions in the medical field

It is guaranteed that equipment, machinery, techniques, and tools used in the medical field will have new and exciting advancements to save lives, but many jobs in this field are off-limits to robotics.

Human interaction, empathy, observation, and communication skills are very important in medicine and any caregiving profession.

10. Creatives (writers, designers, musicians, urban planners, and so on)

Many jobs that rely heavily on the right side of the brain are safe, since creativity cannot be taught to a robot, or coded into a machine for automation.

Humans are unique because we can create works of art after looking at one piece and finding analogies, formulating metaphors, and then applying our own interpretations into a project or product.

A good example of this is the holographic Tupac, who was “brought back to life” to perform at Coachella 15 years after his death.

While the idea worked successfully, what remains to be true is that this holographic Tupac cannot create new music on its own.

11. Career Counselors/advisors

The good thing about technological advancements is that although jobs would become obsolete in the process, new jobs will be created as well.

If you’ve had over a decade working for a particular industry and feel lost at the prospect of starting a new career from scratch, you’d probably need the help of a career counselor.

He/she could help in assessing your skills and suggesting what possible jobs you can apply to based on your experience, skills, and preferences.

12. Teachers/Educators

Similar to career counselors, teachers and educators are going to be essential people in society in years to come.

Every time a new skill, course, technology, language, or any new knowledge is discovered or invented, educators can spread this knowledge to the next generation of learners interested in them.

Tips in Choosing the Best Jobs for the Future

Regardless of what job you decide to focus on, here are 5 tips you could follow to reduce your chances of being replaced by a bot or automation.

  • Diversification is key. Even if you still have a job now, you can practice juggling two income streams. For example, you can start a small business, take up a work-from-home job so you can experience different fields every now and then. If you’re not ready to commit your weekends or full-time, you can check out other cool ways to earn side cash.
  • Develop your Skills continuously. Don’t wait until technological advancements catch up to you and your skills suddenly become outdated. Make sure you are always up-to-date with new programs, techniques, tools, and other advancements within your field. If you have the time, expand beyond your industry as well, so you’d have more options if ever your job becomes a casualty of automation.
  • Think Global. If you’re a carpenter or plumber, who has served your local community for decades, it’s understandable why you’re focusing your market within your reach. Think globally and find something else your skills could work on (example: teach carpentry on YouTube). This way of thinking could open up a lot of opportunities, especially if your job is something you can do anywhere (such as that of an accountant, programmer, writer, researcher, and so on).
  • Don’t be afraid of Tech. Yes, technology can potentially make your job obsolete, but this shouldn’t be the reason to sway away from tech. Be informed by technological advancements within your field. If you’re a doctor, make sure you know the latest medicine, AI-assisted tool, and other upgrades that could help your job. Instead of being scared of it, take advantage of technology and be prepared for the future.
  • Pick a job from a growing sector. If you’re on the hunt for a new job, whether you’re new to the workforce, or you’re worried about your traditional job becoming automated, it is ideal to find a profession from a growing sector.

Make Your Own Future

If your job right now isn’t included on my list of the best jobs for the future, don’t worry. You are still the captain of your own ship. Make your own future based on the growing sectors and tips I listed above.

You can even mix two professions such as mobile app design with teaching to create your own educational app or learn culinary while working as a social media analyst. Or set up your own online business, while keeping your engineering job. You get the point.

As long as you keep on learning, you’ll always have a space for the future, even if it means our future would have robots and automated-everything in it.

What is a 6 Figure Salary? And How to Get One

People always refer to their dream jobs as having a 6 figure salary, 7-figure salary, 8-figure salary, or higher. But what exactly do these figures mean?

And if you wanted to obtain this salary, can you fulfill it with just 1 job? What kinds of jobs offer six figures? seven figures? eight figures? and so on?

This post should help you clear up some misconceptions about salary goals and learn how to reach these figures yourself.

What do 6 figures mean? How Much is 6-Figures?

But first, let’s define what 6 figure salary means.

Getting a six-figure salary means receiving an annual pay of $100,000 through $999,999. This salary range starts at about $8,333 per month up to $83,333/month.

As such, anyone earning:

  • $10,000 to $99,999 yearly has a five-figure salary
  • $1 million to $9,999,999 yearly has a seven-figure salary
  • $10 million to $19,999,999 yearly has an eight-figure salary
  • $100 million  to $199,999,999 yearly has a nine-figure salary
  • and so on.

As you can see, a six-figure salary seems to be the most achievable range (especially for those who weren’t born rich).

This is why many people aim of working hard enough to get paid six-figures and even possibly go beyond it (to seven-figure, eight-figure salaries) in the future.

For most people, earning six figures is a mark of success.

Six-Figure Jobs

So which jobs earn THAT much money? If you’re deciding on a career and would like to know if your chosen course could eventually lead you to a 6 figure salary job, then this guide should help you weigh your options.

  • Managerial positions – Many managerial positions in the office earn six-figure salaries but note that this is more common in the corporate world. Fast food managers, for example, get only up to $56k/year. Car dealership managers can earn six figures.
  • Medical field – Because medicine is an industry that requires people to study for several years and learn highly specific skills, it isn’t surprising to find entry-level jobs in the medical field with six-figure salaries. This includes dentists, nurses, physician assistants, hospital managers, and so on.
    • Nursing: Pediatric nurses, psychiatric nurses or clinical nurse specialists, oncology nurses, neonatal nurse practitioners, orthopedic nurses, or certified registered nurse anesthetists are examples of nursing jobs with six-figure salaries. Other specialties may also offer six figures, but the nurse must be senior-level with several years of experience.
  • IT – If you are a software engineer, UX designer, Full-Stack web developer, software programmer, data scientist, app developer, project manager, and other in-demand IT jobs, you can expect six-figure salaries even at entry-level (especially if you’ve got a solid portfolio).
  • Finance, real estate, and business – A business consultant, property investment, hedge fund manager, accountant, and other senior-level positions in the world of finance, real estate, and business can obtain six-figure incomes.
  • Engineers – Regardless of field, the exceptional skills of engineers are rewarded six-figure incomes from architecture, construction, IT, or other industries.
  • Education – Senior positions in higher education (colleges and universities) can take home six figures, but it takes them years of service or continuous learning (additional degrees) to reach that level.

These fields aren’t the only ones with six-figure incomes. For example, the construction industry can offer six figures to construction project supervisors or heavy-duty machine operators. Pilots earn an average of $110k a year.

5 Common Things about Jobs with Six-Figure Salary

The following factors contribute to a position offered with a six-figure salary.

1. Education

About 50 of 800 jobs with annual salaries of $100,000 require at least a bachelor’s degree.

While your chances of earning six figures increase with every degree you obtain, your education isn’t a guarantee.

Some jobs, such as pilots or factory managers are trade jobs but pay well above five figures even without a four-year degree.

2. Experience

Employees who have stayed loyal and hardworking for a particular company are rewarded promotions and salary increases.

An employee who has been the IT security specialist for over a decade has learned from numerous problem-solving scenarios through the years, so companies invest in their salaries than hiring newbies who may have a better-looking education on paper, but do not have the hands-on skills that they could only learn on the job.

3. Soft and Hard skills

Some employers hire job candidates based on skills suitable for the position. As such, those with sought-after skills can more than make up for a lack of formal education and achieve six-figure incomes.

If you can’t get higher education, try building your tech/hard skills. This means if you’re a computer programmer, master a new language such as Ruby on Rails or Python. If you’re a certified nurse, specialize in a medical field.

Soft skills, such as communication, problem-solving, time management, presentation skills, and other similar skills are also weighed during promotions.

A boss would more likely choose someone who has proven worthy of leading a project, than a newcomer with a good portfolio but without experience in working with a team.

4. Future-Proof Industries

Energy (renewable energy), health care, cybersecurity, drones, analytics, education, marketing, culinary, and other industries with jobs that cannot be automated or replicated by a robot/AI will remain in demand.

As such, those who specialize in them can negotiate higher pay, or be promoted to six-figure salaried positions.

5. Location

Note that location may also be a factor.

For example, it is very common for office jobs in Washington, DC to earn $100,000 or higher.

If you work in the IT industry and have landed a job in San Francisco (specifically in Silicon Valley), you have a bigger chance at getting six-figure salaries than if you are located in a smaller city.

Seven-Figure Jobs, Eight-Figure Jobs, Nine-Figure Jobs, and so On

One reason why people try to reach for six-figure salaries is that they are highly attainable. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case with seven-, eight-, or nine-figure jobs.

The chances of us getting seven-figure salaries (or higher) is not likely. For two reasons:

  • According to Don’t Quit Your Day Job, the salary of America’s 1% (the richest people in the country) begins at $328,551.
  • Reuters reported that of these 1-percenters, about 5 to 6 of them are earning below $500k a year. That’s less than 0.20% of the 1-percenters.

What kinds of jobs earn seven-figure salaries and beyond, you ask?

  • Successful CEOs,
  • investment bankers (think Wall Street),
  • corporate lawyers,
  • doctors with their own private practice, or
  • sales reps focused on selling enterprise products and services.

Entertainers (TV stars, actors, musicians), professional athletes, business owners, and even online influencers (YouTubers, streamers, Instagrammers, and so on) are examples of careers that lead to seven-figure salaries without a degree.

Diversification 101: Getting a 6-Figure Salary with Multiple Jobs

Having a six-figure job means you’ll be able to pay off your student loan (or other debt), save up money for travel or retirement, buy whatever you like, and invest in a car or house. It simply gives you more financial freedom compared to a five-figure job.

Fortunately, diversification (or NOT putting your eggs in one basket) is another way to achieve a higher salary range.

Here’s a secret: there is no rule stating you should have a bachelor’s (or master’s) degree, extensive experience, skills, or employed within a future-proofed industry to enjoy a six-figure salary. These are just common factors, but not set in stone.

In fact, anyone who can commit to working harder for multiple jobs or multiple streams of income can succeed in reaching this milestone. Here are some examples:

If you haven’t heard the term passive income, it’s about time you get acquainted with it. Start with these passive income ideas, which allow you to earn even when you’re sleeping and could help you get closer to achieving your 6 figure salary dreams.

The Amazing Selling Machine (ASM) is, in the words of its co-founder Matt Clark, “…a training program and live event teaching entrepreneurs how to build real, fast-growth businesses selling physical products by leveraging the power of Amazon.”

They claim to be the most popular Amazon FBA training course, designed to teach those who are new to selling everything they need to know to build a successful Amazon business from scratch.

Here’s a general description of what you’ll get:

  • The NEW 8-Module Online Web Class
  • The ASM Mentor Program
  • The Amazing Alliance Private Community
  • The Private Resource Vault

Aside from these core elements, you’ll also get access to a BRAND NEW software tool for product selection, automation tools for your email, keyword research, and advertising, and monthly group coaching calls.

You’ll also get priority access to their live networking events and workshops, including SellerCon.

A purchase of ASM Evolution also includes free upgrades to every new version of the core ASM system whenever they become available. Whenever there are new techniques and concepts that work, ASM gets updated with new lessons to make sure its members have access to the most updated information available.

You also get all this risk-free with a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 6-month Success Agreement (more details on these below).

Details of the Amazing Selling Machine

Let me give you some more information on what you’ll get when you sign up for this training program.

1. The 8-Module Online Web Class

The creators have completely rebuilt this class for the new economy in light of the 2020 coronavirus pandemic.

The entire web class is made up of 120 video tutorials, with each module containing between 11 and 18 lessons.

You can learn all this at your own pace, but it needs to be in the correct order because each lesson builds upon the previous ones.

Through this web class, you’ll learn all the latest marketing and operations strategies that successful, 7-figure Amazon sellers use to select products to sell, drive sales, and encourage repeat business.

2. The ASM Mentor Program

The ASM Mentor Program is essentially a group of elite Amazon sellers who are ready to help you build your very own business and answer any questions you might have for them.

So instead of being on your own, trying to hunt around the internet for answers to your Amazon-related questions, you can ask these mentors with a combined 54 years of selling experience and a collective $24M worth of products on Amazon to give you prompt, accurate, and updated answers.

All you’d have to do is post a question in the community, and you’re guaranteed a prompt response no matter the time of day, as ASM Mentors come from different countries and timezones.

You get to save time and effort in looking for the answers in the wilderness of all the user forums, trying to decide which advice to take. When the advice comes from an ASM Mentor, you know it’s been tested and applied to a successful Amazon store.

3. Platinum Lifetime Access to the Private ASM Community

Aside from ASM Mentors, you can get support from thousands of ASM members from 138 countries with your Platinum Access to the exclusive ASM community.

Building a business can get a bit isolating, especially if it’s an online business.

It’s a comfort to know that someone somewhere has had or is having the same struggles as you are. Whatever challenges you’re going through, there’s almost a 99% chance that someone else has posed the question or has solved it.

4. The Private Resource Vault

This is a collection of tools, resources, and contacts that the founders and mentors themselves use to build and grow their own Amazon businesses.

Included here are a variety of templates, such as for supplier contracts, sample and product evaluations, and other useful, proven templates to save you time and help you increase your earnings.

You also get access to contact details of professional services that even the founders of ASM use for their businesses, such as delivery services and photographers. On top of that, you even get discounts on powerful Amazon tools to help your business grow.

The best part is that they keep adding to the vault as new resources become available.

You can’t get these resources anywhere else.

BONUS: The Automation Tool Suite

This is one of the best bonuses of the Amazing Selling Machine.

The Automation Tool Suite includes 3 sets of tools to help you launch your products, maintain consistent traffic to your site, track your sales and inventory, and do product and keyword research effectively.

You get free access to these tools for varying times, from 90 days to 12 months.

What Can One Expect to Learn From Amazing Selling Machine 13?

Essentially, ASM teaches its members how to successfully drop-ship items via Amazon.

That’s it.

This revenue model is not exactly new; in fact, I mentioned online drop-shipping as a semi-viable work-at-home opportunity a few years ago.

Why only semi-viable? One of the biggest issues with drop-shipping is keeping product costs down. Products that are bought cheaply can generate a hefty profit for the seller once they are marked up.

But where is the average Joe or Jane supposed to locate really cheap and fairly decent products? There are only so many hours in the day where one can go to garage sales or store liquidations.

The answer is China. ASM teaches its sellers to contact product manufacturers in China, obtain and test product samples, and, if satisfied, order bulk quantities of those products. Such bulk orders can cost hundreds to tens of thousands of dollars, so it pays to know a niche product market well.

The next step is much easier: sellers sign up with Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA). This way, Amazon stores the inventory for those sellers, as well as takes care of marketing, selling, and shipping the items. Thus, Amazon does all the hard work.

What’s new in Amazing Selling Machine 13?

2020 has brought about some changes that have disrupted nearly every industry; however, more people are shopping online these days than ever before. Furthermore, there are millions of new customers who are first-time online buyers.

Amazon is where they head to first, and thus, ASM Evolution has been updated to help you leverage the power of Amazon.

Aside from a redesign and upgrade of their online web training program, they also beefed up their Automated Tool Suite.

Another bonus in ASM 13 is the expert listing evaluation. You can actually get your first listing evaluated by one of the ASM mentors handpicked by the founders themselves. Your listing will be tweaked and optimized for maximum conversions and rankings.

Why is it expensive, though?

The program, co-developed by Matt Clark and Jason Katzenback, costs $4,997 to upfront buyers and 6 payments of $997 to installment buyers.

They say the entire program is worth around $13,985, so paying $4,997 looks like a bargain.

Of course, in pricing a training program, the value isn’t only determined by the time spent working on it or the knowledge of the ones who developed it. The price is also dictated by the value of the training program to individual members and how far they grew their business because of the training program.

Clues about why ASM costs as much as a used car are in several of Matt Clark’s interviews with online magazines such as Under30CEO, where the very title of the article is ‘The No-Brainer Secret to Success: High Margins.’

Meanwhile, in IdeaMensch, Matt lays out his strategy in detail, noting that, while he started out as an affiliate marketer selling other entrepreneurs’ products and getting a 40%–50% profit margin, it didn’t compare to him selling his own product and making a 400%–500% profit margin (!).

So yeah, profit margins, pure and simple.

Follow the affiliate commissions…

If ASM was simply another online drop-shipping class, it would probably cost no more than two or three hundred bucks. However, as Matt Clark noted above, a business is more worthwhile if it generates high profit margins.

How are high profit margins generated? By convincing customers that the product has very high value and is in limited supply. Thus, the ASM training doesn’t just include the 8-week course but additional value-added items such as the lifetime forum membership and software tool suite.

Likewise, if you go to the ASM website throughout the year, you’ll notice that the course is sometimes unavailable. This is because the training is offered for a limited time only, after which the enrollment link expires. However, at some given point in time, say the following month, that link will reactivate and another limited-time offer will be posted.

Does ASM 13 offer refunds?

Short answer: Yes, they do.

The amount of money involved is a risk, and the creators of ASM know that.

To eliminate that risk, they offer an unconditional 100% 30-day money-back guarantee.

If you decide that ASM Evolution isn’t the right fit for you, simply let them know within the first 30 days and they’ll give you back your entire investment in the program.

This is enough time for you to go through half the web class, talk to Mentors, check out the community, and go through the private resource vault before deciding.

Not only do you get a 30-day, no-questions-asked, money-back guarantee with your ASM 13 purchase, but Matt and Jason have also developed an even more enticing offer.

They’re calling it the Success Agreement.

If you buy the program, launch a new product within the first 4 months, follow all the marketing steps you were taught within the first 5 months, and you don’t make money by the 6-month mark from the date you joined ASM 13, they will reimburse 100% of the cost of the program, PLUS they will reimburse you up to $7,500 in unsold inventory.

I have never seen a guarantee quite like this one. Matt and Jason seem to want you to try their system totally risk-free. I don’t say this often, but it really does appear that you have nothing to lose by giving ASM a shot. If it doesn’t work out after 6 months, you’re only out the time invested.

Is Amazing Selling Machine Worth The Price?

Supposedly, even someone with little to no prior business experience can use the ASM course to build a six- or even seven-figure business from the ground up.

But upon searching online, I actually found a few ASM-like courses that not only explain the concept of drop-shipping via Amazon or eBay but are also segmented into various industries so you need not buy shiny yet extraneous materials that you’ll probably never use.

Case in point: Jessica Larrew of Amazon Boot Camp.

Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income interviewed Jessica and her husband/business partner Cliff and the couple appear to apply all the principles outlined in ASM, except that they don’t source their product from China or other offshore countries (to be clear, they get their deals at places like Walgreens).

Jessica posts training materials online that are very affordably priced. Furthermore, the training materials are segmented by industry; for example, if you want to try health and beauty product drop-shipping, Jessica offers an ebook on the subject for only $27. Alternatively, you can also buy the entire Amazon Boot Camp for $299.

But let’s say you’re hoping to buy bigger lots of wholesale items and really want to see what’s available through offshore countries. Skip McGrath offers an in-depth 350-page printed training manual called The Complete Amazon Marketing System for $127. He also throws in a bunch of free bonuses like a 30-minute coaching call and lifetime membership to his wholesale sourcing website.

A Phenomenal Lower Cost Alternative To ASM…

Over the past years, Marketplace SuperHeroes has become an outstanding alternative to the Amazing Selling Machine program.

At $997, it’s a much lesser investment, and you get an absolutely fantastic program with an incredibly strong support community.

MPSH Logo

This program was created by Stephen Somers and Robert Rickey, two Irish Amazon Sellers who built their business to multiple 7-figure revenues selling their own private label products.

Despite the fact the creators are Irish, the program is taught for US and international sellers so regardless of where you live, this program absolutely will help you succeed on Amazon on a global scale.

And this is one of the biggest reasons why I believe this program is truly excellent. Not only do they teach you how to sell on Amazon but they also teach you how to take the same products that you find and sell them across multiple Amazon marketplaces.

The Unique Advantage With MPSH

This is huge because outside of the US market, the sheer size of the opportunity to grow on Amazon is unimaginable. These markets are not as well developed as those in the US but they still offer all of Amazon’s incredible services, such as FBA.

Also, because you’re leveraging Amazon, you don’t have to worry about multilingual customer support as Amazon takes care of that for you!

Robert (the main mentor in the program) has been selling on marketplaces for almost 20 years and has sold between $10M to $20M in cumulative sales. As you’ll see when you join the community, Robert knows this business like no one else I know.

Stephen is also a very experienced seller and marketer. He is very much the marketing side of the business but is an expert in his own right as well.

Together they make a really experienced team of mentors. In fact, since the program began they’ve added over 6 additional mentors to the support team. This helps the company provide better support than anywhere else that I’ve seen.

At $997, I can honestly say that no other program even comes close to this value for money.

If you plan to create success on Amazon and you want to go the global route, selling lower competition products and building a ‘mini-empire,’ then you really need to register for this course NOW!

Has anyone tried Amazing Selling Machine?

The general consensus is that ASM is expensive, but if you have the money and want to get consistent, high-quality training and support to launch an FBA business, Amazing Selling Machine is hard to pass up.

However, the alternatives I listed do provide much of the value at a fraction of the cost. ASM 13’s 6-month money-back guarantee does help alleviate some of the hesitation associated with the high costs of the program.

Have you purchased or are considering purchasing ASM? Is there a specific ASM feature that you particularly like? Have you gotten your money’s worth with ASM as opposed to another drop-shipping training program? Please leave your tips, questions, or advice in the comments below!

How to Make Money on Pinterest: 5 Legit Ways That Work

It’s more than a social media network for saving or “pinning” your favorite recipes, dream house, vision boards, and other cute things: you can actually make money on Pinterest.

If you’ve been pinning for years and have been wondering if your pins can translate to cash, you’ll find that there are several ways that pinning can make you money.
However, some of these methods may be outdated or even violate Pinterest terms and conditions.

Today, learn why you should use Pinterest and read about Pinterest-approved ways of making money on the platform.

Why You Should Focus on Pinterest

It should be noted that to make money on Pinterest, you need to sign up for Pinterest for business, which has features that are important for you to develop your strategies to make money.

Pinterest is a darling of businesses and marketers alike because it’s a massive search engine filled with stunning visual content.

This makes Pinterest a great marketing tool for highly visual industries such as food and drink, weddings and events, beauty, fashion, DIY and crafts, home décor, travel, and many others.

In addition, Pinterest users are highly engaged; they actively pin, repin, click links, and share content on Pinterest.

Its analytics tools also provide insight into what your Pinterest audience loves right now. You can then use that information to create content that they can’t help but be drawn to.

More importantly, users who find products on Pinterest are more likely to actually buy them.

Set Up Your Pinterest for Success

Hopefully, you’re convinced that Pinterest can be a lucrative platform.

The next step for you is to set up your Pinterest account so you can grow your account and start making money on Pinterest.

Find your niche.

Your Pinterest account is more effective if your content is cohesive instead of pinning content of any random topic.

You do need to balance finding a niche you’re genuinely interested in and a niche that is profitable.

To give you an idea, here are some of the most popular and profitable Pinterest niches.

  • Food and Drink
  • Parenting
  • Beauty
  • Travel
  • DIY & Crafts
  • Women’s Fashion
  • Health & Fitness

That said, know who your target audience is. For instance, if you want to run a travel-themed Pinterest account, you need to keep in mind what type of traveler you specifically want to attract.

Younger people may be attracted to places off the beaten path or where they can backpack through, while older people may be attracted to places with more comfortable accommodations and has activities that aren’t too rigorous.

Create beautiful Pins.

You want content that catches Pinterest users’ eyes and inspires them to click or tap on your Pins, and possibly like, Repin, and comment on them. That interaction and engagement is at the core of your money-making strategy, so you need to make sure that you only use the best images.

As much as possible, images should be high-quality, in focus, and well-composed.

In contrast to Instagram photos, Pinterest photos are more effective when they’re in portrait mode because they fill smartphone screens better.

With that in mind, don’t be afraid to collage square or landscape images into a single portrait mode image.

Learn how to write search engine-friendly captions.

As I’ve mentioned, Pinterest is really a search engine for images.

But creating search engine-friendly captions means your content can show up in search results not only for Pinterest but for Google search and other search engines.

Build your audience.

Working on your visual content and captions only go so far; the next step is to go out there and actively engage with your audience.

Visit Pinterest accounts of those who have liked, Repinned, and commented on your Pins, and do the same to their Pins. Follow their accounts, too.

Create a group board and encourage followers to Pin in your group boards. You can then prioritize engaging with these Pins as these are “fans” of your content.

Make sure you’re posting consistently. Follow a specific schedule so that your audience can anticipate your Pins. Use applications and software if you must.

Know how to use Pinterest Analytics.

Yet another key part of making money on Pinterest is knowing what’s working for your audience.

Pinterest Analytics allows you to look at how often your Pins are shown, which Pins are getting the most engagement, and how many times your links are being clicked.

5 Ways to Make Money on Pinterest

The following money-making methods below require that the Pinterest member should have a well-established account.

This means you already have hundreds or thousands of pins organized on your dashboard before you begin any of these monetizing options:

1. Become a Pinterest Influencer

If you’ve read our post about Instagram Influencers and how they’ve been making bank, you’ll have an idea of how you can become an influential personality on Pinterest and use it to earn money.

An influencer on Pinterest is someone who has plenty of followers and, more importantly, engages with their followers. Brands are likely to pay them to promote products and services.

“Promoting” can mean anything from Repinning a company’s Pins to inviting a third-party company to join a group board.

Pinterest is okay with this and has been working on solutions and policies to make collaborations between Pinterest members and companies as hassle-free as possible.

How much can you make?

Unlike Instagram and Facebook influencers who have been doing this for years, Pinterest influencers are relatively new to the game. As such, there isn’t much information being shared regarding fees for promoting third-party companies.

Expect influencers to earn anywhere from $50 per promotion to thousands of dollars per campaign.

2. Get a Pinterest VA Job

If you’re up for a part-time or full-time job with fixed schedules, you can turn your Pinterest knowledge into a full-blown virtual assistant (VA) job.

Individual entrepreneurs and businesses know the power of Pinterest to grow their brands and sell their products and services but may not have the time to create content, examine analytics, run Pinterest ads, and manage their Pinterest account themselves.

As most VAs do, the job is likely a home-based or remote job, but you’ll likely be given a regular schedule.

Your knowledge of Pinterest for business will be very useful for this job.

How much can you make?

Depending on your experience as a Pinterest VA, you can earn somewhere from $20 to $50 an hour.

If you prefer working freelance, you can offer Pinterest management plans (paid on a monthly basis) for $150 to $300 per client.

3. Become a Pinterest Consultant

Pinterest Assistant

As a Pinterest consultant, you’re more than just the average VA. You’re the expert in the field.

Someone who has plenty of experience and tricks up her/his sleeves to make a client’s Pinterest game competitive.

In short, you have to be the authority in turning Pinterest into your client’s gold mine.

Michelle Schroeder-Gardner of Making Sense of Cents details how she has shared everything she knew about Pinterest, finding her first client, expanding her network, mistakes she’d made, and how she promotes her own services.

How much can you make?

Like Pinterest virtual assistants, you have two options when pricing your Pinterest consultancy services. You can either go by-the-hour (around $20 to $30 an hour), or a monthly rate (from $100 to $500/month).

The fees you set would depend on the services included in the packages. One-on-one Skype calls, for example, often demand a much higher rate.

4. Cash in as a Pinterest Affiliate Marketer

Affiliate marketing remains an unbeatable way to earn income online, but not everyone knows that you can take advantage of the millions of Pinterest users by including affiliate links in their Pins.

The statistics of Pinterest users and their buying power are pretty impressive. Many Pinterest users go to the platform to find what they want, plan and save for future purchases, and actually buy those items in the future.

With Pinterest affiliate marketing, you don’t need a blog or thousands of followers either. You just need to master how to use keywords on your pins and descriptions, and the users will find your content via search.

This method of earning money from Pinterest has become so popular that Pinterest actually banned the practice in February 2015. The company tried to get back 100% of the control from external affiliates, but eventually lifted the ban and officially allowed Pinterest affiliate marketing again in May 2016.

Pinterest made rules about affiliate marketing clearer in their Community Guidelines under Affiliate guidelines, Paid Partnership guidelines, and Spam rules to prevent abuse from users.

Bear in mind, though, that Pinterest can take this back at any time as they did before. You can still do affiliate marketing indirectly; that is, you can post affiliate links in your own website or blog, and then link to that page on your Pin.

This strategy is actually much more favored by affiliate marketers who are in it for the long run. Aside from being safe from changes in terms and conditions by Pinterest, directing users to a blog post about the product you’re offering allows you to sell its benefits and features more thoroughly instead of being limited to a short Pinterest caption.

How much can you make?

The income potential of Pinterest affiliate marketing is entirely up to you. And since everything you put out into the Pinterest world will forever be online, you can build a passive income stream with your past and current pins.

Like any kind of affiliate marketing, don’t expect overnight results with Pinterest affiliate marketing. You’re likely to start earning mere pennies a day, which will gradually increase if you do affiliate marketing correctly and have your Pins go viral.

5. Sell your own products

If selling other people’s products doesn’t sound very appealing to you, why not try selling your own products instead?

You would need to have an e-commerce website where you can link your Pins to.

Pinterest for Business actually has features that can help you increase your sales. For instance, they have Product Rich Pins that integrate important information on your website to your Pins.

As a result, when you post a Pin of the product you’re offering, Pinterest users can see right on your Pin the latest price, whether it’s in stock, and the description of your product. When they click on the link, it takes them to your website where they can order it immediately.

You get to see which products are popular with Pinterest users and you can use that information when deciding which products to sell.

It takes a bit of learning to implement, but this is a very useful feature.

Moreover, it works for all kinds of products, whether physical or digital.

How much can you make?

There are many factors that can affect how much you earn from Pinterest-directed traffic to your ecommerce website that it’s hard to put a dollar amount on it.

What’s the best way to make money on Pinterest?

There is no single best way to earn from Pinterest.

You’d need to study all the options and pick which one best suits what you want out of Pinterest.

Aside from getting a Pinterest virtual assistant job, all the other four methods of making money on Pinterest require patience and consistency to grow from pennies to dollars to a four-digit monthly income. It’s a long game, but if you do it right, the rewards are definitely worth the wait.

Becoming a Pinterest influencer takes time and a lot of pinning. You can’t just create a Pinterest account and become an influencer instantly. Those with business know-how, perfect communication skills, and an A+ personality will get far as an influencer.

Pinterest consultancy, as with all kinds of consultant jobs, will only work if you know what you’re talking about (and can back it up with proof).

As a fan of passive income, Pinterest affiliate marketing makes a lot of sense. However, it isn’t for everyone. You’d have to be ready for the work involved (it could take weeks or months for your pins to earn cents) and experiment with A/B testing, various strategies, and other campaigns.

Promoting products is perfect for people who already have an e-commerce website. They can direct traffic from Pinterest to their main business, plus access a wealth of marketing insights through Pinterest Analytics, all without spending a cent.

Start Making Money on Pinterest Today!

Hopefully, this guide has inspired you to choose one of these opportunities and implement them so you can start earning side cash from all your Pinning.

Of course, it may well be the opposite; you may have learned that Pinterest is not for you. Maybe other social media platforms are a better fit for you. Read our guides on making money on Instagram, making money on Twitter, or making money on Facebook.

How to Sell on Walmart: Different Ways to Get Started

Walmart has always been one of the top brick-and-mortar grocery and department store chains in the United States, but Amazon remains the undisputed leader in online shopping. Even so, Walmart is building up its ecommerce business and as a result, more people are learning how to sell on Walmart online.

Since 2016, Walmart has been making significant changes to improve its ecommerce game, starting with acquisitions of online stores Shoebuy.com, ModCloth, Jet.com, Moosejaw, Bonobos, and India-based ecommerce site Flipkart, beating Amazon’s bids.

They’ve also secured partnerships with thredUP, HGTV, and most recently with Shopify. The Shopify partnership in particular aims to open up Walmart’s marketplace to small- to medium-sized Shopify online stores to list their products on Walmart’s online store.

This is a big deal because, in the past, the company only invited online sellers with successful stores and years-long of experience in customer service. Nowadays, anyone who has an online store can apply and be considered.

Currently, there are two basic ways for small- to medium-sized online stores to sell on Walmart. Read on to find out more about them, their pros and cons, and how to start selling on Walmart.

Who Should Sell On Walmart.com?

Selling on Walmart.com isn’t for everyone, so who should consider selling on Walmart?

1. Small businesses with unique products

Application to become a Walmart seller is tough. Nobody knows the exact criteria Walmart uses when they consider applications, but many experts believe that product quality is at the top of that list.

As such, if your business creates unique products, getting the high exposure Walmart can provide will surely skyrocket sales.

2. Brands finding it hard to market their products

Walmart.com is visited by over 100 million people every month.

As a brand selling products on the Walmart site, expect better and more organic exposure without spending extra for advertising or lifting a finger for more marketing work.

It’s also important to note that Walmart attracts a different audience than Amazon, eBay, and other ecommerce platforms, so adding another platform won’t hurt.

3. Companies with hard-to-find Items

Any business, big or small, can benefit from Walmart’s massive network. But if you have hard-to-find items to sell, you have an advantage.

This is because Walmart is known as a giant retailer as it is, so offering something that cannot be found on any of its brick-and-mortar stores or its huge online collection is pretty impressive.

Just the fact that you’re not competing with any of Walmart’s own products means the company can highlight your items more than their other products.

Walmart won’t be suitable for you or your company if:

  • You’re selling crafts online. Etsy or eBay may be better options for you.
  • You’re just starting out. A functional website, an online store (even if hosted on a different platform), and other similar portfolio gives Walmart a sense of your company’s history. If your store has no online footprint yet, it’s unlikely you’d be approved as a Walmart seller.
  • You’re selling knockoffs. As part of Walmart’s quality checks, stores with knockoffs never get approved.

Two Ways To Sell on Walmart.com: Drop Ship Vendor (DSV) Program Versus Marketplace Program

Online sellers can choose between two programs to sell on Walmart.

1. Drop Ship Vendor (DSV) Program

As a dropshipper for Walmart, you sell products to Walmart at wholesale prices. Walmart then sets the price on their site, displays product descriptions, and markets your items.

When a customer orders via Walmart.com, Walmart forwards the details to you, and you ship out the order directly to the customer or to a Walmart location if they choose in-store pickup.

With this arrangement, your responsibilities are storing, packing, and shipping the items. If there are too many problems with stock, damaged items, or packages not shipping on time or not being sent, Walmart can decide to remove you from the program.

Pros and Cons of Selling on Walmart as a DSV

Pros

  • No fees — Unlike other ecommerce websites like Amazon, Walmart doesn’t charge you for monthly listing or setup fees.
  • Free shipping — Walmart covers the shipping fees.
  • Credibility — Your product’s credibility is helped by the “Sold by Walmart” label.
  • Marketing — Walmart handles marketing and promotions.
  • Ship to Store — Buyers can buy your items online and pick them up at a store if they want to.
  • Buy Box — Your products are more likely to appear in search results and have the Add to Cart button than the same products offered by other merchants because your products have the “Sold by Walmart” label.

Cons

  • Profit margin — You have to sell at wholesale prices and yet don’t move the products in bulk so you have to shoulder the cost of storing the products.
  • Returns — All returns are liquidated and you may receive chargebacks for returnless refunds.
  • Control — You don’t have much control over product descriptions, retail pricing, and their return policy.
  • No two-day shipping — Since you’re taking care of shipping items to buyers, Walmart can’t guarantee two-day shipping so your items aren’t included.

2. Walmart Marketplace Seller Program

If you’re a third-party merchant of either eBay or Amazon and you’re looking for Walmart’s counterpart, the Marketplace seller program is exactly that. All products sold by third-party sellers are labeled “Sold and Shipped by Marketplace Seller.”

Unlike the DVS program, Marketplace Sellers will take care of writing product descriptions, posting product images, providing customer support, creating promotions, setting prices, and so on.

Aside from these two, there is actually one more way to sell on Walmart, which is to become a first-party seller. This means you sell your products to Walmart for wholesale prices and send your inventory to Walmart’s fulfillment centers. Product listing, marketing, and shipping are all to be handled by Walmart.

This option is only worth it if your business can crank out thousands of products because the profit margin here is very small.

Pros and Cons of Selling on Walmart Marketplace

Pros

  • No fees — Walmart doesn’t charge you for monthly listing or setup fees.
  • Returns — Even if Walmart has downsized its brick-and-mortar stores significantly, it still has a massive family of 4,700 stores and every one of them can accept returns.
  • Credibility — Even if you’re a small company, as long as you passed Walmart’s strict pre-approval process, the approval will instantly give you the stamp of credibility as a legitimate seller.
  • Free 2-Day Shipping — Orders $35 and up placed by 2 pm in the timezone of the delivery address are eligible for free two-day shipping. Shoppers love to save and get their items fast, so this move from Walmart will definitely attract buyers.
  • FedEx Advantage Program — Sellers who choose to use FedEx can save up to 37% on shipping.

Cons

  • Listing issues — Since Walmart is still relatively new, there are plenty of kinks to iron out. You may experience listing issues every now and then, especially when it comes to the single use of UPCs or GTINs and the same products sold by different Walmart sellers.
  • Pricing needs to be competitive — Some sellers may find their products delisted if the prices sellers have set are not as competitive as Walmart would want.
  • Rules on shipping materials and branding — Walmart lets sellers choose the shipping method and carrier, as well as set the shipping fees, but they’re not allowed to use branded packaging (especially if materials come from competing companies like Amazon’s FBA).

How to Sell on the Walmart DSV Program

Here are the steps to start selling as a drop ship vendor. (If you wanted to look at the steps to start selling on Walmart Marketplace, click here instead.)

1. Apply to Become a Walmart Supplier.

Go on this page and find the supplier checklist so you’ll know what the requirements are and get them together.

2. Create a Retail Link Account.

When you have all the requirements together, you can then create an account on Walmart Retail Link to start your application and verification process.

Walmart will ask for information like contact, banking, and tax information, among many others.

When you’ve submitted the requirements, wait for Walmart’s decision for approval. Accept the Agreement terms and you’re well on your way.

3. Set Up Your Item Listings in the Supplier Center.

Once you’re approved to sell on Walmart, you can start uploading your item listings by logging in the Supplier Center.

You would also need to set up details of your distribution facilities, including where your items will ship from, schedules of pickup by couriers, how many units your facility can fulfill, etc.

4. Start Selling on Walmart and Getting Paid!

When your items are listed on Walmart.com, you’ll get a notification whenever someone orders. Fulfilling these orders should be an intuitive process for you through the Supplier Center.

Walmart will pay you for order, and your payment history will be available on your Supplier Center as well.

7 Steps to Start Selling on Walmart Marketplace

If you’re still here, and you know your store has a shot at being approved by Walmart, follow these steps:

1. Apply to Become a Walmart Seller

Visit the Marketplace Application page, gather the list of the required information, and click Start Application. Complete all required fields, including your name, address, company name, business website, category of business, annual online sales revenues (in USD), and more. The form takes less than 10 minutes to complete, so make sure you’ve got all details in. Select “Save” and “Apply Now.”

This is probably the hardest step since the information you provide here will make or break your chances of becoming a Walmart seller.

If you’re approved, you’ll be notified by e-mail with the subject “Your Walmart Seller Center account has been created.”

2. Complete Your Registration

Click the link in the e-mail you received in Step 1. This will direct you to the Registration Wizard, which guides you through five main sections:

  • Account Creation
  • Partner Registration
  • Taxes (W-9)
  • Verify Bank Account, and
  • Shipping Info

Make sure to prepare bank account information and a digital copy of your latest W-9 form. Most of the details you need to provide you already have as a business owner.

3. Fill Out Your Partner Profile

More information will be needed to complete the Partner Profile.

The Partner Profile is a public page where customers will learn all about your company, including company name, company mission/vision/description, logo, return policies, shipping fees, customer service hotline, tax information, privacy policy, and more.

You’re ready to move on to the next step once your Launch Checklist progress bar reaches 100%.

4. Verify Your Banking Information

As a Walmart seller, you need to link your bank account to your Walmart Marketplace account. To do this, you have to log in to your bank (the one you listed during registration) and check transactions for a $0.01 deposit from “WM Marketplace Penny Test.”

If you found this transaction, it means your accounts are now linked and payments can be sent to your bank.

Click “Mark as Done” on the Launch Checklist, which confirms receipt of the penny deposit. Note that this process isn’t instant – it would take up to 4 business days to appear in your account’s list of transactions.

5. Prepare Your Item Listings

This step is the most time-consuming of all since you’ll be uploading all of your content, including product photos, descriptions, videos, attributes, SKUs, and so on.

The good news is Walmart gives you several integration methods to choose from (bulk upload, API, or solution provider).

Begin this step by choosing the right category and sub-category for your product. FYI, Walmart has 24 categories and 79 sub-categories already available; You just have to pick the nearest one for your products. Use the Categorization Guide if you’re feeling lost with this step.

Make the category as specific as possible. Attributes, such as gender, age group, size, and so on, will not only help you describe each product you’re selling but also guides Walmart’s search engines to “find” your product more effectively.

In the “Main Image URL” section, fill it in with the appropriate URL where the image is hosted. You’ll have to upload these on third-party storage and get the link to it. The file size shouldn’t be bigger than 1MB.

Click “Validate Fields” if you’re done. Edit if something goes wrong, and upload the Item Feed file to the Seller Center.

If you see “Staged” status on your Launch Checklist, you’re off to the next step.

6. Place a Test Order

Before you welcome buyers into “your” Walmart store, you have to make sure everything is working properly.

To do this, you have to test the items and orders by going to the Seller Center and selecting “Preview Item” to see how customers will see the product page. Verify all the details, especially pricing and item details.

To test an order, update the item inventory to 1 and click “Update Inventory.” Go back to Seller Center and click “Publish Item” and “Purchase Item.” If everything from your “order” goes on smoothly, then you’re done with the checklist.

7. Launch Your Account and Collect Your Paychecks!

Once you’ve marked all items on your checklist as “done,” a pop-up message will ask you to confirm that you’re ready to launch.

If you are, select “confirm” to request a review and wait for Walmart representatives to check out your profile.

If everything passes Walmart’s standards, your products will go live on Walmart.com within 24 hours.

Which Option Should You Choose?

Selling as a DSV and selling on Walmart Marketplace each have their own pros and cons.

So as an online seller, how should you sell on Walmart?

Actually, if you apply to both the DSV and Marketplace programs and get approved for both, you may not have to choose. You can pick and choose which products you can sell for each program (note: you can’t sell the same item on DSV and Marketplace at the same time).

Consider your long-term strategy. If you want to build your brand but don’t want to spend too much time and effort in marketing and promoting your products, the DSV program may be a better fit for you.

However, if you’re building your own brand, want to take advantage of Walmart’s wide reach, but also want to control the branding, marketing, and pricing of your products, Walmart Marketplace is the better option.

Another consideration is your shipping system. To compete as a Walmart Marketplace seller, you’ll need to be able to offer fast shipping at low costs to your buyer. Selling as a DSV doesn’t have quite the same pressure.

Final Thoughts

Amazon is still the leader of ecommerce, but Walmart definitely knows that it’s late to the ecommerce party and is aggressively making up for its absence.

In fact, brands are aware of Walmart’s moves. Double Insight, maker of the #1 best-selling item on Amazon, “Instant Pot” (earned a whopping $17 million on Amazon Prime Day alone), has decided to launch its follow-up product exclusively at Walmart.

As you may have learned from this article, selling on Walmart isn’t easy. I hope the information here has helped you decide if you want to sell on Walmart as a DSV or as a Walmart Marketplace seller.

If you want to sell online, but feel like Walmart isn’t the right option for you, or if you want to expand your reach, read our guides on how to sell on Amazon through FBA and how to sell on Etsy.

How to Make More Money with Uber: 12 Brilliant Hacks

Uber pros

If you’re here, you’re probably already an Uber driver and you want to learn how to make money with Uber.

Driving for Uber is one of the best side gigs or even full-time hustle available when you have a car and a pristine driving record.

The way you’re paid by Uber is flexible in that you aren’t paid an hourly wage. There are ways to increase your Uber revenue so that you’re earning four or even five figures a month.

Today, we look at how to make more money with Uber, as well as the pros and cons to being an Uber driver so you can judge for yourself if this is hustle is for you.

12 Tricks for Uber Drivers to Make More Money

Here are a few tricks for Uber drivers that you can utilize to maximize the amount of money you can make in the shortest time possible.

Uber Driver

1. Drive the right car.

What makes a car the right car to drive with Uber is one that balances your driving skills, fuel efficiency, maintenance needs, and your income goals.

For instance, you can make more money driving a larger car because you’ll be eligible for both UberX and UberXL, but if you can’t drive a larger car comfortably, it may not be worth it.

2. Always keep water and snacks in the backseat.

Nothing feels better than getting inside of an Uber car and finding a few snacks and water.

It shows the passengers that you care about their comfort and increases your chance of getting a larger tip and a good review.

Don’t just place it in the backseat haphazardly, though; invest in a car seat organizer so everything is neatly arranged on the back of your seat.

3. Don’t follow the herd.

A few weeks in and you’ll already know about the “recommended times” and the “recommended locations” where the demand is high.

Whether that’s a busy Saturday night or a certain morning route, it’s always better to completely ignore those.

You’ll be dealing with high competition since all Uber drivers in the area will tend to flock to those recommended locations at those recommended times.

You’re more likely to actually get a request where there is a lack of drivers.

4. Log out of the Uber Driver App before a surge.

Learn about the general surge times and log out of the app 15 minutes before.

Let’s say you know that 5 p.m is a huge time for surge pricing as everyone is leaving work.

Log out of the app 15 minutes before since that reduces the number of drivers, hence increasing the surge fare. Plus, you won’t get a request right before the surge pricing kicks in, so you won’t be missing out on the higher fares.

5. Stay in one place when you’re waiting for a request.

It’s tempting to drive around the city when you’re in between rides, hoping to increase the chances that you’re pinged for a ride.

Unless you’re doing it to familiarize yourself with an unknown area, it’s a bad idea.

You waste gas, you wear out your car, and it’s unlikely that the one or two pickups you get to make will be worth it.

A better strategy is to find a safe place to park (not idle) and wait for a while. Ideally, it’s near a high-traffic area where there are riders.

6. Watch the Uber Passenger App as well.

This is one of the most important Uber tricks for drivers.

You need to understand your local market, and to do that, I recommend downloading the Passenger App.

You’ll be able to know how many Uber drivers are near you and make a strategy around it.

For example: if people are leaving a concert, all drivers may be in the same place by the main entrance.

Instead, go to the other entrance where you’re more likely to get a request instantly.

Herd of Taxis

7. Follow the alcohol.

Friday and Saturday nights, along with major holidays, are definitely the best days to make the most money with Uber.

Surge pricing usually lines up with bar closing times.

However, remember that you do have to deal with inebriated passengers, and there is always the risk of someone getting sick in your car.

8. Be ready for the mess that comes from following the alcohol.

If you’re going to deal with drunk passengers, you need to be ready.

Puke-proof your interiors (Scotchgard your cloth covers or just change to vinyl covers), have proper barf bags (the ones with a plastic ring to hold on to) within easy reach, and keep an emergency cleaning kit complete with rubber gloves, soapy water, and a portable vacuum for “accidents.”

Uber does charge a cleaning fee to passengers who make messes, so you get back at least some of the cost of your emergency puke kit and to actually deep clean the mess.

Remember to document and take pictures of all messes first before you clean them up, though.

Lastly, air fresheners are your best friend; have a few of them handy.

9. Dress and act professionally.

Always dress in clean and nice clothes, and put a lot of effort into being polite and respectful to the passengers.

Making a good impression goes a long way toward high ratings and even possibly a tip.

10. Stay updated on weekly incentives.

Gamifying ridesharing can be a good or bad thing, depending on who you ask. But we’re not going to pooh-pooh a chance to get extra money from Uber.

Not every city offers these incentives, but when you see chances to boost your earnings (for example, “Do X trips and get an extra $Y”), do your best to take advantage of them.

11. Sell useful stuff to your passengers.

You might have heard about the “Uberpreneur” a few years back who made more than $250k a year selling jewelry as he was driving his Uber.

It’s not for everyone, though.

Riders book Uber to go someplace, not to go through a sales pitch.

However, if you’re careful to sell goods that your passengers might need, you just might be able to earn a few extra dollars a day.

For instance, display folding umbrellas or rain ponchos for those days when there’s unexpected rain. Or offer portable power banks for those who forgot to charge their phones.

12. Make even more money by incorporating other apps with Uber.

Instead of just making money with Uber as a driver, you can capitalize on being an Uber driver by downloading these apps.

  • Vugo. This is a company that will pay you to set up a tablet in your car and display ads in the backseat.
  • Wrapify. They are a company that will pay you to wrap your car in a commercial ad. Just be wary as there are a lot of car wrap scams that exist out there. Stick with legit, proven companies like Wrapify.
  • GetUpside. Save up to 25¢ per gallon of gas with this cash back app
  • Stride. Track your mileage and expenses with this app so you can maximize your tax deductions come tax season.
  • Waze. Uber’s in-app navigation can fail you. Waze is much more accurate and can get you to your destination quicker and safer, which are all good things if you’re looking for good ratings, good tips, and to squeeze in as many rides as you can in a day.

Pros of Making Money with Uber

Uber pros

If you’re new to driving for Uber or trying to decide if it’s worth it, it’s always important to weigh the pros and cons so you can end up making an informed decision.

I’ll lay everything out and help you decide if it’s worth it.

1. You have a flexible schedule.

Possibly the biggest advantage of making money with Uber is that you can work as much or as little as you want.

You can dictate your schedule around important occasions and holidays.

Need to work late at night? Do it.

Take a whole month off because you just need some “me time”?

Yup, go for it.

Have a friend’s baby shower all the way across the state? You guessed it…Do it!

2. It’s perfect for entrepreneurs.

If you’re an entrepreneur who’s in the process of starting or funding their own business, then Uber is a great way to make that extra money you need to fund your business.

Usually, entrepreneurs go for part-time jobs but those often come with strict schedules, and, well, a boss.

Which brings me to the next point…

3. You are your own boss.

Driving with Uber, there’s no one telling you what to do, how to do it, or when to do it.

If you thrive in an independent work environment and don’t like being constantly supervised or micromanaged, then you’d like driving with Uber!

4. Only skill required: driving well.

You don’t need to be a great writer, a crafty person, some Bitcoin guru, or even have special skills at all to be able to make money with Uber.

Driving well (read: driving safely, not driving fast) is enough.

You don’t even need any equipment but your phone and your car.

There’s a very low barrier of entry to the job in general (all you need is a car, a license, and no criminal background).

5. You get to meet new people.

This one can be a pro or a con, depending on whether you like people.

If you’re an extrovert, then you will love the fact that you get to meet all types of people.

Maybe you’ll get to learn a thing or two from them.

Most side hustles don’t give you the opportunity to interact socially.

6. You get to explore your city and beyond.

A lot of freelancers who work from home or remotely complain about the sudden monotonous routine that they find themselves in after a while.

They are sick of working from the same place every day.

When you make money with Uber, you’ll actually get to see new places and neighborhoods you’ve never even heard about.

7. Learn while working.

Yes, you can listen to music or news while driving, but why not use this time to listen to podcasts?

You can use the time you work and make money to master another subject.

8. Take advantage of the surge.

Let’s be honest: this definitely sucks for the rider.

For you, though, it’s definitely quite freaking cool.

If you are in an area or a time that often has surge pricing, you can make up to double the money (or even more) for the same amount of work.

Although it’s not smart to always be chasing the surge pricing (you’ll get to know why in a minute), it’s still a major advantage.

Cons of Making Money with Uber

Uber cons

The benefits are enticing, but there are some drawbacks to being an Uber driver, too.

1. You have to do your taxes.

Having to do your own taxes is dreadful.

But since you’re considered an independent contractor, you’ll have to calculate your own taxes and pay your own expenses.

2. You subject your car to hard use.

The biggest enemy of your car is wear and tear.

The number of miles will increase, you’ll need to maintain your car religiously, and repairs will be more frequent.

The expenses add up and will take a considerable chunk off your earnings.

3. You subject yourself to some risk.

You’d probably think twice before picking up a hitchhiker, right?

Well, picking up an Uber passenger is a slightly more sophisticated (and paid) version.

It’s not to say that driving with Uber is dangerous, but driving strangers around to places that you may be unfamiliar with does sound a little risky.

4. Customers may leave unfair ratings.

You can do everything to improve customer experience, but in the end, you can’t control how you’re rated by your passengers.

But if you have a low rating, you’re less likely to be pinged when someone needs a ride.

Moreover, if your average rating falls below a 4.6-star rating average, your account is flagged and Uber will consider whether or not to kick you out of the platform.

5. It’s a sedentary lifestyle.

If you’re making money with Uber as a side hustle, then you won’t have to really worry about this, since you have plenty of hours left in a day to make up for the lack of activity when you’re driving.

But if you’re taking up Uber as more of a long-term, full-time business, this can affect your health.

6. There’s little to no growth potential.

As I’ve mentioned, you do get to explore your city and learn new things from interacting with all sorts of people.

But in terms of a career ladder, it’s a dead-end, quite frankly.

Your income can increase from year to year, but there are no promotions or any higher level you can get up to.

Hopefully, you’ve weighed the pros and cons of becoming an Uber driver and decided to go for it.

Whether you’re trying to earn more money to pay off debt, fund a business, save for a holiday, or build a nest egg, every cent of extra income matters.

7 Incredibly Smart Ways to Make Money Online with Google

You can now leverage the power of one of the world’s biggest brands and actually make money online with Google.

Whenever someone wants information, to talk to someone, to buy something, or to find entertainment, they ask Google. But few people know that there are plenty of ways to legitimately make money online with Google as well – you just need to know how to look for them.

People are often looking for new ways to make extra money or a supplemental income, yet they hardly ever think to use what’s right under their noses, namely Google itself.

It isn’t difficult to make money with Google, but it does require effort and patience. The methods listed below aren’t get-rich-quick schemes but will reward you if you’re willing to put in the work.

7 Ways to Make Money Online with Google

When you use Google products, Google is actually making money off of you.

Here are the 7 best ways to turn the tables and leverage the world’s biggest search engine to pull in some of that cash for yourself.

1. Start a Website

This is going to require quite a bit of effort and a small investment on your part before you can start making money from it.

But if you approach it strategically then it’s a great way to make a steady income upwards of $2000 a month by simply utilizing the tools that Google has already provided.

Namely, website crawlers and search engine ranking.

There are two possible options when it comes to owning a website:

Using it to sell your products/ideas or building up the website under an exact match domain name and selling or renting it out.

Owning a Website

If you have something to sell or any other unique idea for setting up a website then don’t wave the idea away. There are plenty of people who have built up a nice monthly income (including me!) by setting up and running their own websites.

Whether it’s a blog or an e-commerce store, you’ll have to buy a domain name and start designing the website on a web hosting site. There are plenty of tutorials available online that can help you through this process.

Here are three useful Google tools that you should really be using if you’re running your own website:

Google Pay: People trust Google and will likely be more willing to buy from you if you use Google’s own payment handling system.

Google Keyword Planner: This tool helps you figure out what people are searching for on Google. It’s very effective for a long-term blogging strategy.

Google Shopping: Google shopping is linked to Adwords, but puts your actual products in people’s search results instead of a text ad.

Selling/Renting Out a Website Domain Name

If you’re not keen on waiting months to start generating an income from your website, then this may be a better option.

Essentially, you’re going to build a high-ranking website in a specific niche and then either sell it or rent it out to a business owner in that niche.

You’ll have to buy an exact match domain for a specific and ranking keyword via a domain service like GoDaddy or Namecheap. Then get a web hosting service like WordPress, Wix, or Squarespace and start creating the website.

The key here is to employ the best SEO tactics to make sure that your website ranks high for the keyword you want to rank for.

It’s also important to make sure that there are businesses with a need for this type of website.

The easiest way to do so is to find local businesses in a directory and see whether they have a website and if that website is ranking for any search terms.

2. Become an SEO Consultant

Speaking of learning about best SEO practices, a lot of business owners (and thus website owners) know almost nothing about SEO and don’t have the time to learn. But they do know that it’s important if they want to get more customers for their business from online traffic.

They need SEO consultants to analyze their websites and make recommendations on SEO best practices.

By becoming an SEO consultant, you can make money online with Google by studying how their search engine algorithm interacts with websites and how to use that knowledge to increase a website’s ranking in search engine results.

There’s a big demand for this type of work, with plenty of opportunities to gain new and recurring clients.

3. Use Google AdSense

If you already own a website or are looking to start one, then you’ll also want to make friends with Google AdSense.

This nifty platform is actually Google’s bread and butter and is the reason they are a multi-billion dollar company today.

You will partner up and make money online with Google by incorporating their ads on your website. You get paid depending on how many times your ads are clicked, or even just viewed.

It can be quite lucrative with enough traffic and many people make a living from AdSense alone.

4. Affiliate Marketing

There are various ways to get into affiliate marketing and since this is such a broad topic, I’m going to section this part off into a couple of ways you can get started as an affiliate partner.

YouTube

YouTube is owned by Google and so definitely belongs on this list. There’s more than one way to make money off YouTube, but affiliate marketing is one of the most popular methods.

The type of affiliate partnership you get will depend greatly on the type of videos you want to make. If you run a beauty vlog then you might get retail make-up companies sending you their products and paying you for a review, for instance.

Blogger

Setting up a whole blog of your own can seem daunting and like a huge time investment.

Luckily, Google thinks of everything and has you covered here too through their Blogger platform.

Like most Google products, it’s super easy and fast to set up and get going with Blogger.

Once you’ve built up a reputable blog in a specific niche, it’s a short step towards getting companies to pay you to either review or promote their products.

Just make sure they can easily contact you!

Promoting Products Online

One of the easiest ways to find upcoming product launches is through MunchEye. This website lists various current and upcoming product launches whose sellers are looking for affiliate marketers. They work with the JVZoo Affiliate Network so you’ll have to sign up for that and start applying to sellers if you want to work with them.

You can create a simple webpage or single blog page about the product, or take it a step further and create a fan page around that product on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media sites.

5. Try Google Opinion Rewards

These days, everyone on the internet has an opinion on almost everything and yet few people truly care about listening to other people’s opinions.

They’re more interested in getting what they have to say out there.

With Google Opinion Rewards, however, your opinion actually does matter to someone and you can get paid for it. Well, in Google Play Credit at least.

The app can be found on the Google Play Store so you can download it to your phone and quickly fill out some surveys whenever you get a chance.

Google Opinion Rewards sends notifications when new surveys are available and pays around $1 in credit per survey.

You won’t be able to actually make a stable income off of this, but it can be a fun way to get “free” content on the Google Play Store.

6. Sell an App on the Google Play Store

Even developers can easily learn how to make money on Google. The Play Store is constantly looking to add new apps to its already huge list of apps.

If you’re into programming or have been doing it on the side as a hobby then this is the perfect way to start making cash on the side through Google.

You can monetize your apps first via in-app purchases; that is, offer basic functionality for free and then charge customers for more advanced features. You can also allow advertisers to place ads in your app, but do your best so that the user experience isn’t negatively affected.

7. Write and Sell Books on Google Play

Apps aren’t the only things to sell on Google Play; you can also write and sell ebooks on Google Play Books.

Write your book, sign up as a publisher or author on the Google Books Partner Program, upload your book file, and put it up for sale.

When you read on self-publishing, you’ll almost always read about Amazon Self-Publishing, but if you’re interested in expanding your reader base to non-Kindle readers, Google Play Books is your best bet.

Start Making Money Online with Google Today!

So in a nutshell, here’s how to make money on Google:

Take advantage of the fact that the search engine gives you access to lots of people and free tools that can help you set yourself up for success.

Making money online with Google isn’t impossible. It just takes some dedication and strategic thinking to make the most out of all the opportunities the platform provides.

If all else fails, you could always go and work for Google or work from home.
